Heater stuck on max heat. :(

Postby bmoeller » Sun Jun 06, 2010 3:35 pm

Need a bit of help guys.

Got a '92 in Feb, and the heater is still stuck on. This is my first 1st gen, so I'm in new territory.

Don't know how the controls work for sure. Fan works, and the "off" button turns the fan off, but that seems to be it. Blend door moves freely, and no functioning A/C (yes it is charged, so good there).

There is a vac operated valve of some sort on the one heater hose. No vac on that line, and no change in temp with a hand operated vac pump is hooked up (and no leak down on the pump gauge). Either the valve is stuck open or,..........

Any ideas?

TIA.

I would say the valve is stuck open if you can vacuum it and nothing changes. And if there is no vacuum ever on the hose, you have another problem in the controls as well.
Clamp the heater hose shut with pliers and try it, it should be good until fall like that. ;)

Ya, I need to see if there is vac to the controls at all anyhow. Vac pump makes 25" and the brakes work great.

I was thinking about a ball valve in place of that one. ;) Works on my KW. :D

This truck was a rebuilt truck. Not wrecked, but a clean body. Still trying to get a few other things figured out. Wiring needs some help. Got a few wires that don't plug in anywhere. Using a Garmin for my speedo and trip odo. ;)

Just making sure. :D My KW has 2 for the heater, so I figured it wouldn't hurt. Works good. :D
