I have a perfect set of doors from Mark Nixon, so those will get put on at some point. I suppose I should order patch panels and test my welding skills next

Well, that explains my problem pretty well then.

This may seem obvious, but when you are sanding off the rust, make sure that you get it all off. This means down to shiny metal, including in the pits. If the pits are still black colored, there is still rust in there. A wire brush, a pick, or better yet sandblasting will get this out. The problem with sanding it out is that besides taking forever, you will make your panel as thin as the deepest pit which isn't such a good thing. Your self etching primer is not meant for rusty metal, it is just meant to bite a little tooth into the clean metal. It is a dirty, awful job but at least your paint job will last.

I skipped my July bump because I was pretty busy with work. Here's the August one!

I sanded my new doors and primed them. I'm really happy with how they came out. I didn't think that primed doors were worth taking a pic of. HVLP gun FTW! With the paint off I can see some spots that will need bondo. Mark warned me that they had come into contact with a forklift once, but at least they aren't rusty! I'm going to order patch panels next week and see about getting them on.

I got ahold of some aerosol "Automotive Stripper" and it would take the paint off, but not the primer. I'll have to try that Aircraft stripper stuff I suppose. I've said "stripper" so many times in this post, someone must be thinking I'm talking about Charlie Sheen.

Anyways, any opinions on method of attachment for the patch panels? Philip mentioned solder, a local guy mentioned a special epoxy and I suppose it'd be possible to weld them in.
