2nd gen seat mounts

Postby PToombs » Sun Jul 31, 2011 5:34 pm

For the guys that have 2nd gen seats in their trucks, have any pics of the mounts?
I set one of mine in my truck today and it sits 2-3 inches too high. I was just wondering what you guys did to get them to sit correctly. It seemed to sit good, and I know I need to adjust the rear, but what did you guys do in the front?
TIA!

i got them and used the frame off the old seat and welded the 2nd gen hinge and sliders on the old frame cause the second gen frames sit too high and i would have had to drill new holes . this way u have all your adjustability and comfort like a new truck

You used the whole frame? Stripped off the foam and fabric and used the base? Got any pics? Appreciate it!

no i used the seat as it was and threw away the frame like legs on the 2nd gen seat and welded it to the 1st gen seat frame legs. i didnt haft to do anything to the foam or the cloth. my 2nd gen seat came out of a extended cab truck which has a cup holder in the back i put it in the front of the seat on the trans hump and it works just like it would in the back. i dont know how to post any pics

91 bc, that's what I meant, stripped the bench seat to the frame. The pics on CF weren't too bad. Gave me the basics on it.

Pete, thanks for bringing this up. I've had a grey seat from a 97 SLT and haven't found a good way to mount it yet. Using the 1st gen base makes so much more sense than the mess I was trying to do with spacers and brackets and crap. I hit the pick'n pull here this morning while it was a nice and cool 97 and scored one. Only had to evict a colony of mud dabbers.

I'll weld it up this next week and put my pics on here of the finished product.

I don't have a welding rig so I'm going to a buddy's shop and he's going to fab it up for me. Did you weld the slide rails directly to the old bottom frame or use tube steel?

If you look closely at that post he didn't mount the seats on a first gen bench frame. He drilled at least four holes for the inner legs and I'm guessing four for the outer legs. Ours only have four bolts holding it to the floor pan.

I worked on mine yesterday. I stripped my bench frame, and then measured it. Still 2 inches too high, it would be the same as the red buckets. I then played musical frames with the red bases, the 2nds, and the stocker. I decided to cut the 2nd gen bases down and use them. I'll get pics when I get a little further. The key was I need 5.5 inches from the floor to the seat base, more than that and my legs hit the wheel like the red buckets do. The 2nd gen seats that I have are 2 inches thinner than the red buckets, so it should work out good.

does your steering wheel not tilt? My legs cleared with the original 2nd gen frame, but my eyes were on level with the top of the windshield. I did have the wheel tilted up all the way and I'm 6'3", so your experience my vary.
