There is a rubber locking strip that goes in the middle of the gasket. Pull it out and cut the gasket out.

Yup, it's a round strip of rubber about a 1/4" in diameter.
I have seen another style on equipment that there is no strip, but 1 side of the gasket lays on top of the other. To seal it you force the longer side into the groove which pushes both sides tight.

Ok cool - I'll have to dig into it once the snow is gone and see if I can identify this strip. Assuming this strip is visible from the outside? I guess I could also just cut the gasket with a sharp box knife.

Diesel, take a small screwdriver and dig into the seam and see what happens when you pull it up. I have only seen the gaskets with the strip in Dodges, but it's possible it has the other style I mentioned. If the gasket is the least bit stiff, a new one well worth the money for the hassle you save on install.

Andy and toombs were right. It's there but has blended into the gasket. It's safe to tear up the zip strip and get a new one with my new windshield seal?

I'd peel it out and try to save it. The new one I got was smaller diameter than the original, so I reused the thicker one so it would seal better.
