1991 D O D G E letters

Postby jorez » Mon Mar 26, 2012 6:48 am

Is there anyplace, other than getting a new grill..to get the 5 little black letters that are attatched to the grill? My grill is fine, just missing the letters..like someone popped them out for some reason..no junkyard around me has any..so no luck there...

EACH letter, D O G E, had its own part number. The ones I have seen were mounted with the letter pins through the holes in the grille shell and were melted in place from behind. It was cheaper than using a slip nut from behind. Chrysler engineering probably saved five cents per truck by melting them in place.

The ones on my 92 were melted in. I sanded the melt of the back side and popped the letters out and stuck them on a new aftermarket grill with 3m two sided tape.

Last I checked with a dealer, there were still some new DODGE grille shells left, with the D-O-D-G-E letters on them.
Very spendy, though.

Emblem adhesive works nicely on the letters.
Grind the backs smooth, prep the surfaces with hot soapy water, followed by alcohol or lacquer thinner, then paste them on with the emblem adhesive.
Wait until the adhesive hardens, then carefully trim off any excess with a pen knife.

The OEM grilles actually have a slight depression behind each letter, but from 5 feet away, it's hard to see the difference between that and a repop grille, unless the letters are spaced wrong.

I took the letters of a busted up grill at a junk yard, they were melted in, so I took a dremel tool and ground the pegs smooth preped them and the grill with alcohol and used emblem adhesive and stuck em right on. They look totally factory.

Sometimes they pop up on ebay, but it's not often that they do.
