Alright I'm going to have to derail my own thread for a minute. I have a real question.

So I cut my blue fender as I described in my last post. Somehow the '88 D250 and '89 D250 inner fender bracing structures differ. Two things came about from that.

1. Do I really need a brace in there? Of the four fenders I have, two rusted through right there and the other two were pitted and would rust through if untreated for a few years. It seems like the that inner brace just harbors rust.

2. The inner brace is pinch welded on the top and bottom for the majority of its support. In the middle, the back of the support is held to the inside of the fender with a foamy sort of glue. What's that stuff called? If I truly need that brace, I'll reattach it properly.

Thank you for any insight.

IMO, everything should be re-done as it was originally.

In a way, you answered your own question in how you described the parts.
Words like "brace", "structures" and "support" usually mean it should remain there.

Yea that's probably true. The braces are the same on a second look so they won't be hard to stick back together. Now how to stick them together...

Panel bonding adhesive, it's what they use to glue 1/4 panels and other metal body parts on.
Not a big advocate of glue-like substances holding metal parts together, but it's been around for 10+ years and I guess it has held up pretty well.

Well Hansen bumped his thread so I will too

Here's what I have going on. Here's my primer:

It can act as several things depending on how it's mixed. I opted for primer-sealer.

Here's the glue I opted for:

It's treating me good, even though gluing stuff together is kind of scary  I used cleaned the bonding surfaces, screwed the patch and the fender together, removed the screws, ran a bead on both surfaces, and screwed them back together. After it dried, a flap disc cleaned up the excess.

Ran a coat of filler over it:

Previously primed metal:

And now my work shop:

Feel my pain

Still patiently waiting on my rear wheel arches from Tabco in Ohio.

The wheel arches showed earlier in the week. That's today's project 8)

You DO know you could have pirated those from an old pair of front fenders, correct? ;)

I figured so. I didn't have any non-rusty fenders to chop up though :P

I even could have cut out and salvaged my patch panel from last year  And I still will before I scrap the bed. ;)

 Been busy. I learned a ton and wouldn't trade the knowledge gained for a professional repair/repaint job. I have some ins and outs to share, but I don't have time to type it all out now. I painted it a week ago today and have been driving it since Friday. Those pics make it look electric blue, but it's a pretty true blue. It's some fleet color close to Ford/NH tractors.

Nice job, man! I've been busy putting dents all in my bedside so I can practice some hammer/dolly work when I eventually give it the cheapest white paint job ever. (Besides the one that's already on it)

:Edit:
Whew, I was just about to make some joke about how suspiciously close Caleb and Andy were to be texting each other when I walked over to see a very suspicious group text full of ridiculous numbers and blue truck pictures.

It looks like baby blue on my screen, I thought "Caleb, WTH did you do!" I'll reserve judgement until I see it in person. ;)
