Lund visor install help

Postby bmoeller » Tue May 01, 2012 6:37 pm

Anyone know what size (length and diameter) the sheet metal screws need to be to put it on? Going to get SS screws. Want to get the right ones. Thanks!

Bryan, my guess for length would be at least twice the thickness of the visor, and large, 3/16" or 1/4" diameter. The threads are larger on them, and the shoulder on the head is good and wide. If I still had my 91, I would pull a screw out of it and measure it, it had a visor on it from early on...

Hope this helps buddy ;)

I was eyeing the #10 and #12 SS screws they had at F&F. Shortest was 3/4". Just wasn't sure. Diameter seems right. Just didn't have anything to measure the hole at the moment when I went in there.

When I put mine on I used these...

http://www1.mscdirect.com/eCommerce/Nav ... /_/N-77e1x

you have to drill a slightly bigger hole but that thing aint going anywhere... you stick this down in this hole and then thread in a 1/4"-20 stainless bolt and it sucks the flanges up against the sheet metal... very sturdy fit.

Edit:
I forgot you need a tool kind of like a pop rivet gun to pull the flanges up...

Those might do it. :) Should be able to use a longer bolt with a nut threaded up a ways, then thread the bolt in. Hold the bolt and run the nut down to pull the insert up underneath. But, I do have an air/hyd riveter. :D

Ah, nut-serts! We use them at work alot, but ours are solid with splines on the outside where it collapses to grip whatever it was put into. They work pretty decent in sheet steel. We had the special tool to do it, I would let you borrow it, but one of the window-lickers at work blew the seals out of it  It was a hand held hydraulic unit, worked pretty good.

Right now, I just want to use sheet metal screws, as it will be a temporary install. Will move it over to the donor body then. Put it on this one for now, and I don't have to worry about damaging it as much.

I don't think I've ever seen a football bat. How does that work exactly?

Ah, the football bat. It's a term we use at work, "dumber than a football bat"...

Wikipedia : Army slang, meaning "severely f'ed up".

All along the lines of "a box of grid squares", "ID 10 T form", "PRC (prick) E 7", "kywag", etc. Good times

I always thought it was "that's about as f'd up as a monkey f-in with a football bat" but that'll work too.

Comes from the same box of fun as:
Chemlight batteries
Humvee keys
bucket of propwash
300 ft of flight line
BA-1100N with an ST-Ring
1992 Dodge D350 Dually. EV2 Pyro & Boost, BHAF, Denny T Stage 2 pin, 366 spring, 4 inch exhaust and mildly tweaked pump. 2nd gen split bench, full replacement bumper/grill, and mobile comm suite.
