Rocker panels?

Postby bmoeller » Sat Jun 16, 2012 10:16 am

Needing rocker panels and inners for my donor truck. Completely new to body work.

What is the difference between the "factory" piece, and the "slip-on" version? I intend on keeping the truck for as long as I can, and want to do it right. So, don't really want to cheap out on it.

The factory piece requires removal of the existing panel and either splice welding or rosette welding in the panel in place of the old. A slip on rocker is slightly larger than the existing panel, after removal of corroded areas you slip it over and rosette weld it in place. The slip on can however create more areas for moisture to collect causing future rust. I always go with factory replacements. Like the one in my garage....that I have been saying I will install for the past three months....

I think I'm going to get my patch panels from Tabco out of Ohio. If you have possibly 2 years, I'll let you know how they fit  They talk a good game at least

I got the slip over ones and they fit great and were super easy to install, on the inside
of the door jam i used the seam sealer like the factory uses, can't hardly tell unless i
show it to you.
