Extended cab short bed conversion

Postby apaches64 » Sat Jul 07, 2012 6:01 pm

Any one done a ecsb conversion? I need some wisdom on the subject if anyone has some to glean. I currently have a reg cab that squeaks, and leaks. I have a line on a reg cab, and I also have a extended cab that I can get ahold of. Is the conversion worth the trouble?

The one that I have seen online, the fellow chopped and shortened the frame so a shortbed could fit on. As for being worth the trouble...that is something you will have to decide, as eveyone will have a different opinion on if something is too much trouble.

Hope this has helped you ;)

I would think a regular cab long bed would be the same wheel base as a extended cab short bed so you could just swap the cab but I am not sure whether you would have to modify the cab to fit a different frame rail profile as the frame would turn up right behind the cab on the regular cab and an extended cab frame would have a longer drop down for the cab to fit. Its the same issue I believe as trying to put a crew cab onto an extended cab frame.

Iirc the wheelbase is different. In the neighborhood of an inch or two longer for the xcab.

I shortened my truck from a long bed to a short bed.

The wheelbase is right around 134" I think

I'm confident enough in my metal melting abilities to do my own, just not others. Too much liability involved in cutting up other peoples trucks, sorry.

This is what the left overs are after doing it. 4" off the back of the frame, ~16" out of the center, exhaust, and drive shaft.

The hard lines? I just looped the extra out and back above the fuel tank. If my flaring tool wasn't broken at the time, I would have shortened/re-flared them.

Yea the hard lines was what I was wondering about. I wonder if you could use short bed halfton lines and they fit correctly? I'm going to cut my reg cab down but I've never really messed with hard lines before

If you are taking a sclb and wanting to do a ecsb all that need to be done is the rear cab mounts need to be cut and moved back to accommodate the longer cab then it's a matter of mounting the bed an running everything I am going to be doing the same thing to my 93 sclb. Hope that helps.

Just joined when I saw this thread. I am getting ready to do this to a 92 W250. I was wondering if you took a measurement of the shoertening of the rear axle?
