car seats in a club cab

I'm looking at getting back into a 1st gen. Life has brought two bundles of joy since I had my last first gen so now I'm wondering how well car seats fit in the back of a extra cab? If anybody has any experience with your input would be great, or if some one with a extra cab could measure how much room there is behind the seat that would be very appreciated.

Unfortunatley, they don't with the stock "jump seats". Some folks, including me, have put a small bench seat in the back with appropriate seat belts.

I wasn't sure if they would fit or not. Something tells me the wife will not be ok with the new born and the two year old ratchet strapped in. I do have a line on a 85 crew cab with a 92 engine and front clip, it's a driver, it's just not as nice as a club cab I came across.

If you are up do doing some fabrication, rear seats out of 97 and up Ferd F150's are 16" deep, and the back section tucks nicely under the lower rear window trim. Might be an option for ya.

Is there any leg room left with a small bench seat back there?

I went to a wrecking yard a while back and measured some take out rear bench seats, most are 20" deep, while the Ford unit that I mentioned earlier was 16", so there is a little more room. The best way to measure is the distance from the rear wall to the rear of the passenger seat as there is no fore/aft movement of that seat. I measured it a while back, but can't remember the exact measurement right now. The rear bench seat that I have is an aftermarket unit that was made for our trucks, it is the only one that I have ever seen, so I bought it immediatley. I can post some pictures of it up tomorrow if you want to see what it looks like.

Those aftermarket seats are crazy expensive new. A friend of mine called a few years ago and I think he said it was like $600

For now I'm gonna go check out the crew cab I found, it sounds like it's a solid swap, but the interior never got finished. Thanks for all the info, if the crew doesn't work out I'll hit ya up for those pictures.

Sounds good. Interior is one of those things that doesn't prevent you from running the truck, you can finish it as time/funds/parts become availible
