I think Rumblefish went to a place like Joann fabrics and got some grey felt type material and used it. His came out good. He may chime in here shortly.

Yes, I went to a fabric store and got it. Iirc it was around $12/yd. And as a bonus, every female in there from 19 to 90 was checking out the only guy in there that was buying fabric.

I scrapped all the old glue off with a stiff nylon bristle brush and used 3M super 77 adhesive, the expensive stuff in the red and black can. It help up great, and came out really nice. The hardest part of the project was trying to remove and install the headliners by them selves since I did it to a ramcharger and the rear section was huge. Of course, 10 mins after I got it in my dad showed up and asked if I needed help.

Is there an easy way to remove/reinstall the back window?

Thats not what I did. It was close but remember I have weird seats too. Its a close fit and if their is trouble, its easier to take the seat out, not the back window. Having a tilt column helps and do it in the summer when its warm out, not winter. I was dumb. It actually went back in easier than it came out. Still in good shape after 6 months and the hot weather.

Replacing the headliner in an ext. cab is super easy and you don't HAVE to take the rear window out or the seats. Ask Philip, I put one in my 92 in about 20 minutes at S.O.P. last year. ;) Take off the upper plastics/trim and pull the old one out, it is a tight fit going through the door. Pulling the rear window makes it easy though.

I finally got my headliner out. The fiber glass tore some in the back getting it out. I hope its still usable. Its a pretty tight fit. how many yards of fabric should i order?

WLS headliners has everything you will need to do this. I have used them at least 6 time over the past few years and they have had very helpful. They have video on their site to show how to fix the backer board.

For those who DON'T know, the headliner in an Extended cab is NOT made of fiberboard, it's more like a stiff form of fiberglass insulation, which holds up fairly well to one removal and install, but it's fairly tender if you're a masculine man with uncontrollable rage.

Be sure you get ALL of the old glue crap off and have an even coverage of the new, because one hates to see "glue tracks" in their new headliner.

Mark.
