Grill Change????

Postby edoskocil » Fri Sep 14, 2012 1:17 pm

I'm sure it's been asked before, but I have a 90 D250 and I want to add an IC, can I use a grill from a 91-93 to give more clearance?

I know Mark will be able to verify but i believe the location of the headlights in the core dupports are a bit different.

I've read and been told that you need the IC'd core support

If you move the headlights, you can use a 91-93 style grill with your core support (see this article in mopar muscle mag: http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/projectbuild/mopp_9908_1987_dodge_ram_d150_new_grille/), but a stock intercooler probably will not bolt up.

you do need to move your headlights. good luck getting them re alinged It is much easier to change the raditor support. or take the center area out of the grill and make your own

So to clarify... the same would be true if I wanted to swap my grill from my 90D250 for the newer chrome finish style? I purchased the grill, signals, and lower valance beneath the grill from the scrap yard thinking it would be a direct swap...

I've read and been told that the ford IC's fit pretty good.

As has been mentioned, you WILL need the I/Ced core support from 1991.5-1993.
Optionally, if you like the plastic chrome grille of 1991-1993, yet DON'T wish to go intercooled, you could alternatively use the early 1991 Non-I/Ced core support.

That they do, I'm hering they are a vast improvement over the OEM ones, both in flow and cooling.
Compared to the OEM one, they are almost identical in width, almost double the thickness and 1/4 as much taller, PLUS they utilize the larger inlet and outlet.

I'm convinced enough that they are the thing to have, so much so, that I can't resist the temptation to grab them when I see them in the yards for cheap.
I have a stack of 5, now. :D
