carpet change

Postby 1990CTD » Sun Dec 02, 2012 2:33 pm

My truck is in desperate need of new carpet. The stuff in it is like indoor outdoor carpet with cow crap and mud all over it. I had a 82 Chevy 4x4 with like a one price rubber or vinyl floormat instead of carpet. I loved it because I could wash it or sweep it out and not get stained up. Can't find any online for it. Thinking of finding some thin rubber and cutting it to fit and just put over old carpet. Anyone done this? And does anyone have a tray behind their seat? How do you remove it?

Indeed it is, there's a link to where I bought mine in this thread.

Click!

I would also recommend bedlining it to keep the rust away and throwing anything you can find under your carpet to help out with killing the noise.

Okay cool ill look on there. I'm definately not putting carpet back in it. Ill put some indoor outdoor carpet and a rubber mat. That should be fine. Gonna be a running a 6 inch stack soon
Has anyone tried that spray in bedliner?

Do y'all have that tray thing behind your seat? Mine is like bolted in or something and I'm not sure how t get it out to wash it. It came off a farm and before that a rock quarry. But the truck has no rust but the bed is just beat all to heck. Had one rust spot on top of cab but I cut it out fiberglassed and bondo it. Looks pretty good.

I used the roll-in type bed liner. Dunno it's name, but it's hanging in there. Surface prep will have much more impact on how durable it is than the actual type you buy. We wire-wheeled my entire floor, scuffed it, swept it, then cleaned it before we lined it. The bed liner isn't even attempting to peel up. I just threw some on my bare pedal bottoms since the rubber pads were gone. No prep on them an the corners were getting scuffed off 2 weeks later.

The tray behind the seat has 4 philips head screws holding it in, down the middle. Sounds like you need to pressure wash the tray to find the screws.

Yes it is rough in there. Need to take it out to pressure wash it. I will be using gloves to clean it. People don't keep things clean.

Herculiner, by chance? My boss used it in a few trucks and to coat a new transfer L-shaped fuel tank. Seems to be holding up decent. Not as tough as a Rhinoliner, but a hell of a lot cheaper. And, easy enough to clean up and touch it up, if needed.

I was gonna pull the seat and old carpet out. I am gonna fix any rusty spot if there is any. I always paint over surface rust too. Then I'm gonna lay down some 1/2 inch thick rubber paices I've got in some spots to deaden the sound. Then put in more indoor outdoor carpet then the one price rubber floormat. If I put all my trim and stuff back around it, it should look pretty good. I'm gonna just get some thin rubber and cut to fit.
