New key set, doors + ignition

Postby Gots_a_sol » Thu Jan 31, 2013 1:10 pm

So I had this happen while I was out of town. Since I needed to get home, I just stuck the broken piece in the ignition so I could start the truck.

Obviously the key was pretty worn. I've been opening my doors with my jeep's key, so obviously those are worn too. I'd like to replace the door locks and ignition and only have one key for both like I did. I can't find a place to buy them as a set for our trucks.

So I guess the point of this thread is, does anybody know where I can buy a NEW matched set for our trucks?

A locksmith can hook you up,I've had two chevys done up like the military(one key) does so I know you could buy new locks and have them keyed alike. O'Reilly has them or can get them, door locks and key tumbler

Take the key into any place that has a key machine. They can run a new one off that broken key. I have done it before.

I got a complete set out of a 96ish bseries amish hauler van. Ignition cylinder was a direct swap, switch and all. The door cylinders only needed the clip changed on the back. I got a matched set for $10 at the jy.

A drawback to using an old key as a master, is that the new ones may not work well. Especially if the person running the machine is lazy, and makes a sloppy duplicate. Been there, done that!

Would think these would work, if you have a tilt wheel.
