Eddie's 1990

Postby ekroman » Wed Mar 27, 2013 9:49 am

I've been a member here for a while, and I thought I would post (finally) some pictures of my 1990 D250.

First, a little background. I was perfectly happy with a 1985 D100 gasser, 318 auto, and a friend of mine had just bought a D250 Cummins (used). He took me for a ride, and after getting pinned to the seat, I was hooked.

So, back in 1998, I sold the D100 and bought this D250. I had to scrape together every dime I could get my hands on to buy it. Mostly stock, 1990, with 120,000 miles on it.

I drove it until the body started showing rot, and I pretty much parked it back in 2007. I started poking at it at first, then I got out there and go serious last year, starting to really tear into it, cutting out the rust and welding in patch panels, then smoothing it over with filler, primer and finally, last week, I painted it.

I know there are a lot of you out there who have recently acquired a First Gen. I never got rid of the one I had, I bought it years ago and just could never bring myself to sell it. I've had a second and a third generation truck (sold them both off), but I just can't detach myself from this First Gen.

Please bear with me as I try to post some pictures! Thanks!

Here it is sometime after I started cutting sheet metal out. The rear fender arches rotted out, I found a hole on the inner fender as well. I suspect the inner fender rotted out first, and took the outer fender with it. So, everyone check your inner fenders to make sure you don't have a hole!

Here is a view from the front, when I was patching the rust across the front of the roof. You can see where I started this repair, I ended up wrapping a sheet of galvanized 18 gauge over it and welding it on. I guess it's not rotting away anytime soon.

Glad to see you held onto it and are back working on it. Just copy the image code and paste in the reply box and the picture will show up on here.
