operation rebuild!

Postby 93oneton » Sat Apr 06, 2013 10:03 pm

Well the insurance company finally saw things my way and gave me the money to fix my truck with out totalling it! I had been lookin on Craig's list since the night it happened for parts. I located a new dana 70 drw axle for the back and sent a buddy to go pick it up for me. Its bout 3 hours from me and he lives bout 20 min from where its at. I should have that next weekend. I packed up this morning and started on a 10 hour round trip haul to pick up my new bed. It has a perfect driver side and a slightly beat up passenger side. No worries though after a little spot weld cutting and some new welds ill have my original passanger side off my truck on the new box. I will be ordering some more stuff monday!

You can see the dent in the pic

But this side is nice and straight!

The rain finally stopped this morning. Went out and pulled the bed, bumped and tow package.

Got a better shot of the back of cab damage and the rear shackle mount.

The passenger side frame rail is pulled in at the bottom from the tow company dragging it around with the leaf spring digging into the ground. Hope to get my buddies frame guy out here this week to look at it and see what he thinks.

That dent didn't look that bad. Up here guys would pay for that clean box side! ;)

Got alittle done tonight. I got all the bed liner removed from the bed cap. That was a pain in the ass. Also removed all the molding from the sides and sanded a small spot just to get an idea on how well it was goin to smooth out

Tomorrow ill get the gas for the welder filled so i can finish welding on the bed side then let the sanding begin

Bed is looking good. Have you found out how bad the frame is yet?

I bought it at oreillies for $15. The arbor was kinda cheesy but it cut really well.

The frame guy came and looked at it. He said it was pushed 2" back on the drived side. He said it wasnt a big deal. Easily fixable.

I've been looking at these: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... d%2Bcutter

It's good to know the cheaper and not-one-piece ones work well.
