tired of ruined door speakers? look here

Postby ellis93 » Wed Apr 10, 2013 7:02 am

So I've had a brain fart and have came up with this little jewel to save my door speakers.....it's made out of antifreeze jug
Image
I just cut out a good size square with about a 1" strip of the side of the jug, then I slit the strip every 1/4" or so....using my calibrated eyes
Image
This is to let the plastic follow the contour of your doors hole
Image
On the depth of it I just trimmed till it just touched the back of the door skin
Image
After I got it trimmed like I want it I mount my new speaker and it holds the rain deflector in place.

I've thought about this a little more and I might just redo this, this time I'm gonna make this thing go all the way around the speaker. 8) I need to patent this schit

Why not cut a 6x9 hole in the jug, and cut out whatever is going to be the bottom. Then, a small bead of silicone to seal it to the door, and put the speaker in the jug so it's covered on all but the bottom side and screw it down? I tried something like what you just did with sheet plastic to cover the speaker, and that didn't work. :(

Or......I could just buy regular speakers and the belting for the windows, and another pair of speakers 5yrs later. Marine grade speakers are not cheap, least good ones anyhow

Those baffles in a 1st gen door don't even need to be secured. They wedge in real good around the speaker and the door outer skin.

I am putting them in with my cab replacement. The left door speaker/baffle is already installed.
