pop out window seals

Postby Black93 » Thu Apr 25, 2013 12:40 pm

Does anybody offer new ones for the ext. cab windows? I had a good set from a truck I parted out a few years ago, but I can't seem to find them. My passenger side leaks pretty good.

I had a set out of one I scrapped. I'll see if I can find them for you.

I believe I already mentioned this on here a few times but I'll repeat it a couple of more times.
Find a container, a pan, a bowl or whatever you can fit your rubber body seal into.
Buy enough of the old style brake fluid to cover it in said container.
Soak overnight and check. The brake fluid should soak into the porous rubber and revive it. It should relieve some of the brittleness and cause a slight amount of swelling which returns it to its old dimensions. Wash the seals with soap and water after they air dry. Then very lightly lube them with AT Fluid before you reinstall.

We used this method in the 1970's for restoring non available rubber parts for cars made in the 20's through 40's. The results can vary based on the grade of the rubber that is used. The reason the old rubber seals leak is because they dry out and shrink.

I read that a while back, but that's not my problem as you can see in the pic. I'm gonna have to replace it.

Dazed, if you can find yours let me know.

I checked http://www.steelerubber.com and they do not list it. They have about everything else but that item.

That molding looks similar to what was used in hatchback cars starting in the 1980's. You might try measuring the "profile" and see if you can find something similar in your local wrecking yard. With compressible rubber it doesn't have to usually be the exact same size to work. A tad bit bigger can fit.

I finally found one of my spares, so I'm gonna use it. I don't know what happened to the other one. :?
