Which bumper is correct or does it matter?

I Have owned 2 other 1st gens besides my current w250 LE, both previous were also LE, except they were W150.

My question is, my current has the "step" bumper on the front, the other two had the Chrome smoothie bumper. What determined which bumper they got, was it a trim package or what?

As far as front bumpers go, the 1991 through 1993 LE bumper has the black plastic covers and the full plastic bumper guards.
The "base" bumper is actually the same bumper that was used from 1986 through 1993.
The only difference is that the LE bumper has slots cut into it to attach the plastic covers.
