single cab

Postby tradtke » Sun Aug 11, 2013 6:32 pm

Alright so as I've been looking my truck over more and more I keep finding more and more rust. I'm about to the point where I'm ready to just go And buy myself a rust free cab or even a truck and put that cab on my truck. I have a 1991 W250 3/4 ton 5 speed 4wd. Where can I find a nice cab and how much will I be looking to spend?

The rust free cabs will be out west. Price depends on how complete it is when you find it. Most of the time a complete cab is 1K or less. A bare cab 300 to 500 range most of the time.

Where? The southwest is a guaranteed home run as Philip said, but that's often not an option. Garage or barn find gassers are a fair bet too.
Price? I priced an essentially rust free loaded cab with bad doors at $300. I wanted it to sell quickly.

Some things you should know when looking for a cab/donor:
-Having a 5 speed means you have the tall floor. The floor section can be cut out and transferred to the new cab if it's not rusty.
-Check the drip rail, rockers (front and back) and the front corners of the cab. Pull up the carpet and have a look. Dodge evidently wanted these trucks to rust out ASAP.
-If you see a bubble, run like the wind  That bubble is hiding a huge mess.

I was prepared to pay a lot for a complete truck, but I lucked out and found a complete 2wd/auto cab for $500...still had to cut up a clean floor to put in the proper center section as it had the small center "hump" and my W350 needed the large floor center "hump" section...

just that a complete cab has doors, interior, fully loaded you pull yours off and drop that right on. bare cab could vary from missing everything except the shell to having bits a pieces left in it.
