Dual rear wheel to single rear wheel conversion

Postby 12V93 » Wed Oct 02, 2013 2:03 pm

I did a search and did not come up with anything on this site?
Looking into swapping single wheels on my dually.
Other than the bed issue and the possibility the rear end is 1 to 2 inches wider.
Anything you know of that will be an issue?

I did some web searches and ran into the information listed above.

Why?
One I didn’t need duals In the first place (the truck was a good buy).
Two it would make life with the truck (and my wife) a lot easier =)
Three it would get around better in the winter and tire options would increase and cost less.
The only down fall I can see is a loss in handling/hauling ability (I barely need a ¾ ton {but I love the cummins diesel} could get by with a heavy half).
Thanks

Front hubs will have to be changed.

Mine is a 2X and I thought it was just removing the adapter/extender?
The adapter being a bolt on extendion so the dual style wheel would fit.
So remove the adapter in the front & decide on how to address the bed (non-dual bed or remove the dual extention and repair the holes and larger opening.
Then you would/should be able to bolt on 3/4 ton wheels & tires.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks

No our truck don't work like the new ones. You have to swap out the hub and rotor to make it a single wheel. The newer trucks you just unbolt the adapter. Link didn't work either.

So if I can get my hands on a set 3/4 truck front hubs (2X's) & either a singel tires bed or repair mine, rims and tires and bearings for the hubs I should have what I need do the swap? Or am I missing something else?

Thanks again for the information

sorry man the SRW rear end is more than 5 inches narrower than a dually, I made some spacers for my truck to go the other way
SRW to dually, I made them 2 inches, so 4 inches total, I was still 2 inches to skinny and it looked kinda dumb so I swapped rear ends.

another thing is the dually studs are bigger than a 3/4 ton.

to make it look right you will need to swap rear ends and front hubs.

Just keeps getting better.........
So what years of hub are interchangeable?
93, 92, 91, ..90, …..89….???
Sounds like I need to get a tape out and do some checking.
Maybe I can find someone close by with a ¾ ton I can compare numbers with.
Maybe it would be cheaper to just order custom wheels???
If the rear and front end are the same width (or close) I could run the same wheels in front/back and as a spare without any issues. The cost of the wheels may be less expensive buying all the parts to do the swap.
How many people have done this or the reverse (go away from or to duals)?
It just rolled 149,XXX earlier this week, and other than the thin paint issue I believe I have worked out any little issues the truck had when I got it.

I have the front hubs but shipping would probably be stupid high.
