Yeah Michael, you missed a good time! ;) Course Jeff wouldn't know, he had to go beddy bye!

And I am working on my rust issues! Just the other day I went over a train track at a high rate of speed and knocked more off!

I have a number of running-board equipped trucks.

Excepting the full-length ones on the wife's truck, not a single set of them are on the truck originally intended for.

All were given to me by people who had taken them off of their trucks for whatever reason.

Also, it is a simple matter to bend a set out of aluminum (or steel) tread-plate sheet stock.

They are so simple, it is ridiculous what these manufacturers charge for them.

If I made a home-made set, I would make the "board" wider by a couple inches and lower, and also make recesses for the lights.

Anyone have some dimensions for some running boards as far as where the bends are? I have access to "scrap" ;-) aluminum treadplate and a press brake. Also, a regular metal brake. I'd have to come up with a line about it being for my pickup, though. My sperm donor has some nice looking running boards on his W350.

My brother works at a fab shop that uses a lot of stainless sheetmetal and he welds it. I'm going to go in on a Saturday with the guy that bends the stanless and build a set. My brother also has a 86 Dodge with boards on it, we are going to use as a pattern. Polish up the stainless, put some tread on the top, and some yellow chicken lights, and will be going good. I'll have to get the rockers fixed before the boards go on, and the doors painted too.

Or, you could do what we are doing on the son's truck.

I am cutting his rockers off in a line straight across, just flush with the door-sill, continuing the cut through the cab-corner.

Then, 3x6 3/16-wall tubing gets fastened where the rockers once resided, with the ends contoured and capped.

A stout step-plate, and possibly a lower stirrup, will get welded on.

Plenty of yellow markers will be mounted.

The tubes will be air-tight, with air-tank fittings, thus becoming reservoirs for his on-board air, along with the front and rear bumpers.

It will take a long time for these rockers to rust out again.
