Running board source??

Postby MMiller » Sat Nov 17, 2007 3:57 pm

Hey guys, back in the day my 93 had running boards on it, by Dee Zee. I went a little crazy for a while and had 33X12.5's on the truck and removed the running boards for more clearance.

I've since went back to 265's and want to put running boards back on, to help keep the rockerz protected, and a place to mount running boards and chicken lights.......

I can't find any vendors that offer them anymore, does anybody know of a company that makes some still? Just some regular diamond plate ones.

I know a guy that has a set of used ones, do you want me to see how much he will take for them?

Michael the main thing to look at is the length. For a X cab you need 6' long. Your regular cab 4' would be close. The mounts for most boards are a universal fit most of the time.

When I mount my boards I am going to use a set of ford running board mounts. The rear inside plate on our rocker panels is 1/8" thick or more. It will support a set of boards. Just get some weld in nuts and your set to go.

Here is a good listing for them.

The boards I used to have, just bolted to the verticle flat section where the bottom of the rocker panel was pinch welded on. There was 4 small bolts that held on a verticle plate, then one support that went to a channel on the cab, and then a "L" piece to the back of the cab, then a mud gaurd that tied it to the wheel well. It was plenty sturdy, and is what I'm looking for.

Tim, are they in good shape? I guess find out how much they want, and where they would be coming from.

Philip, do you know what vintage Ford your boards are from?

Michael:

I forgot to ask do you need them for a single cab? That is what he has.

One of my prior trucks (85 Dodge) had a set of diamond plate running boards. I can take a look around and see if I can come up with them. I'd be willing to come off them reeeaaaal cheap, like make them go away and they are yours.

Yep Tim, its for my single cab. I havn't come across any club or crew cabs that I can afford to save yet. Still looking though.

I'll consider used ones if they are in good condition. I've noticed abused ones usually have cracks in them. For that matter I could put a set on my pulling truck too, just to make it more like a sleeper.....

Michael my boards are made by Weston I think. LOL They are stainless steel. I'll drag one out tomorrow and get a pic of it. I don't think they have been made for quite a few years.

The ford part of it is the mounts. They are used on the fiberglass boards ford uses. It is a good heavey stamped steel mount. They are a good 5" to 6" wide. They use four bolts for mounting on the body. With the wide spacing the holes have our inner panels can support the weight good. Only a couple of mounts per board would be needed.

Michael I was wrong. The boards are made by Stull. They are Diamond line series.

I did a search on line and a few places still show them. Here is one that lists them for our trucks. Mine are the orginal series.

http://www.autostyles.com/stullrb.htm

Here are a couple of pic's I did this morning.

The mounting kits that I got with the boards is about useless. Very light and flimsy. Thats why I am looking for a better mounting setup.

These will be power coated black before I install them. After the cab swap.

If someone needs the dually boards from this set. Let me know. I won't need them.
