Does the heater in your truck work?

Postby qmikep » Fri Nov 29, 2013 8:08 pm

I'm not sure if my heater/ac controls are working properly. Because quite frankly, my heater sucks. I've cleaned out the heater box and flushed the heater coreand it didn't change a thing. When I push the "heat" button, hot (actually slightly warm) air only blows through the vents on either side of the transmission tunnel and he upper vents close.
When you push the "heat" button on, do your vents stay open and have hot air blow through them or do they close? And does your trucks heater blow hot air at all?

Thanks,

Mike

Sort of. I think I have a vacuum leak in the brake booster though. The heater controls are vacuum operated I believe. It takes awhile to get warm but it does eventually. I have not cleaned out the ducting yet though.

Mine will cool you out in short order.

If the heater isn't working good, then something isn't right.

Vacuum controls the doo hicky that swaps floor, vent, etc... If it doesn't get hot, I would check your thermostat.

Does hot air blow out the upper vents on your guys trucks? Because I can hear the vaccum actuator close the upper vents when I push the heater button, which doen't seem right to me.

I don't know if this relates to 1st Gens but a buddy was having a similar problem and this 'Fix' at the link solved it. Had to access this right above the tranny hump as I recall. Could at least be something similar on the earlier trucks?

Mine only blows heat out the vents when I push the vent switch, the heat button blows out the floor and the windshield vents.

My truck would only blow slightly warm air out and I flushed the heater core and put a Cummins 180* thermostat in and it will run you out now
