replacing the carpet

Postby fatty » Mon Oct 27, 2014 10:09 pm

What are you guys using to replace the carpet? Mine's getting pretty battered and nasty. Plus it gets wet a lot and I'd prefer not to have a rotten floor. A buddy was telling me about some stuff for floors that had some sound deadening also. Sounds great to me, but I have no idea where to find the stuff.

In my last truck, after I redid the floor pans, I put down new carpet. Bought it from a company online called ACC, Auto Carpets Customs. Was nice carpet, had good backing to it, fit wasn't bad either. The trans hump didn't fit quite right, little loose, overall was good. Was a plow truck, so I may not have taken the extra time to really fit it good.

I just replaced the carpet in my truck about two months ago. The truck is currently in the process of restoration (on a tight budget), but I did go ahead and get a nice oem style carpet.
The company I went through was WLS Headliners and I believe they are out of Georgia. Very nice folks to deal with and my carpet for my single cab 93 w350 turned out very nice. If I get a chance I could post a picture. Either or, I have the red interior, and they did a good job matching the color, for both my carpet and headliner.
As far as sound deadening goes, you can get batting which was behind the original carpets.
I actually ended up installing Dynamat sound deadener which has an asphalt backed deadener that has a great adhesive quality and does a very good job. It is a little on the spendy side but totally worth it. In my case I don't have to listen to the ol CTD humming like crazy, I can actually hear my own thoughts!

Overall if you are going to do it and don't want a wet carpet, you could try finding a rubber mat for your truck.
Up to you, but that's my piece on carpet selection and installation.

You ever work on your truck and get all done then realize if you woulda just gone a little slower and paid attention things would have gone much smoother?

Im embarresed to admit it but thats what happened with this. Ive been building this truck for 2 years and the final step was the carpet and seat, so i woke up after a night of casual drinking, installed the carpet cut the holes and just about the time i finished up, i realized i didnt push the carpet up under the dash far enough, so when i push in the clutch, and let it out it grabs the carpet and lifts it up.....because of MY screw up it fits ok, but not at all happy with it...$170 mistake so now i will order another, take my time learning from my mistake and im pretty darn confident it will fit 100% better....sorry for the rant haha

Also!!! Take it out of the box, unfold it and lay it flat for atleast a day or so, that will help it fit right!!

We have all done it before. Most of the time "we" don't tell. We just slide over that part.

How was the fit? Any length issues or side to side issues?

Get a piece of threshold from Home Depot or Lowes or where ever and screw it to the firewall to hold that section. Way cheaper than a $170 carpet!

It fit pretty darn nicely, it is a little short on the sides up in front of the door but i think if i would have slid it up as far as i was suppose to that problem would be solved, good idea on the threshold but i am "trying" to do everything on this truck to look as original as i can make it haha

Take a pic of the driver side. I can't tell much about the heel pad over there in your pic.

You do any sound deadner while doing the carpet?
