Getrag 5 Speed swap floor hump

Postby cummins1992 » Thu Nov 13, 2014 10:26 am

When doing a 5 speed swap from an auto in a D250, do I have to change the small hump out for the large hump? Or could I get away with leaving the small hump in the floor??

Swap it out, the 4x4/ manual hump is wider and a little higher than the 2wd one.

It depends on the year. My mom's 92 D350 had plenty of room under the tunnel for everything. Same with my w250. I am not going to make any claims to the humps being the same without having them side by side, but I seem to recall them being similar dimensions.

Both came factory with an auto. Both now have Getrags.

Was it a club cab by chance Daniel? They have the same "large hump", regardless of drive or transmission. Its the regular cab/auto/2wd's that have the small hump.

My 84 2wd/auto Ramcharger has a large hump like all my manual trucks (2wd & 4wd). The '88 D150/auto truck I got for parts has a very small hump. Its quite possible that certain cab/body types only came with the large hump tunnel.

Only 2wd auto reg cabs had the small humps. Everything else had the big one.

I have a cab from an '86 D150 auto 4x4, a cab from a '93 W250 Getrag 4x4, and my runner is a '90 D250 with Getrag. If anyone wants I can post up some pics of the transmission tunnels within the next week as well as some measurements. I believe my two 250 5 speeds are the same tunnels, but it has been a while since I compared them. *edit* I forgot all 3 are reg cabs.
