I used bedliner on mine and it turned out pretty decent. Now, if I had to do it again, I'd take the time to strip the chrome and paint it a light gray color. Reason I say that is if anyone can remember SOP 9 and that super clean 91 W250, it had gray painted moulding. Looked damn nice, I had to get pretty close to see that the chrome strip was removed.

Final wet sand and wipe down.

If things go my way tomorrow night I'll tape the glass and other bits off and have it all ready for painting Saturday. Only thing that sucks......I've been seeing 60% chances of rain for Saturday.

Good luck Ellis! I hope to seal the gas tank on my bike tomorrow. I washed it yesterday, primed it tonite, and plan on pouring the goo into it tomorrow, then 3-4 days to cure. It was supposed to rain tomorrow, but then it changed 4pm and then the next 3 or so days, so it may work out.

Thanks Pete! I'll need it!

Game on at 5am. Forecast is calling for low 70s at 5am and low humidity.

Well.....everything was going well. All was looking good. Got the silver base on,taped it off, sprayed the red, untapped it and started on the clear coat.

Clear

Even sprayed the tail gate banner thinger with the clear

Nice and shiny

And I was like yeah.....this is gonna look real nice

Then....the the turn for the worse. It gave me the finger.....

Talk about being pissed like I've never been before,I actually felt myself turning green and swelling.

The application of the second coat of clear caused this. I don't have a clue why.

That's weird. Talk to the people you got the paint from and see what they say. And it looks like DA sander marks in the 2nd to last pic, shame on you!

No way dude.....that's just bad pic and horrible finish. I surfacer primed and blocked this thing twice, hence my major disappointment in the finish. I took a lot of time on the thing.

The last few days I've been trying to figure out what went wrong on the clear. I painted several things in several different fashions to see how/what works or doesn't. So far the only thing that I've came up with is you reapply the clear(2nd coat) (with this schit) while the first is flashing off. If you don't,it'll wrinkle every time. With the other stuff I've sprayed,as long as you applied it over itself within a 24hr period,it'll stay put without sanding.
This morning I mixed up the nason clear I had left over from the Chevy and sprayed it on the hood (half of it/that's all I had) to test its staying ability without wrinkle......worked like a champ. Shiny shiny.
Weird deal.....expensive lesson to learn as well. It's what I get for using eroupen (newer products) paints in an effort to have a quality/lasting paint job. I think I'll stick to good old DuPont products from now on. ;)

You could have tried reading the directions, it makes big difference I've noticed. ;)

I followed them to the T pal! Flash time in 3 to 5min....recoat in 30 to 60. ;)

I'm not really questioning you, just saying that I screwed up the paint on the white truck because what I remembered wasn't actually the right mix ratio. ;)

I wish I would have Pete. I wouldn't be buying a 300$ clear setup to replace the crap I put on there. No doubt about it....if you coat after the first layer drys,it's gonna wrinkle.

Got up at 4 this morning and readied myself for battle. Got to the little sheid around 5 and tacked off the dodge, mixed up some clear and got to spraying.
Looks damn good!

Of course.....I'm a freaking sweat hog, even in 70* temps. Just had to drop a little on the drivers finder.....guess I'll just buff it out

I didn't catch it till the second coat of clear so that's why it trailed off like that.
