Club cab drip rail over windsheild rust rot repair

Postby MikeRWC » Tue Feb 17, 2015 11:37 pm

Well I am new to this forum thing, an have joined really for one reason, and that is this. In the past months I searched for hours and hours for information on repair and replacement of the first generation Club cab roof, namely where the bugger likes to rot out over the windshield. So After finding things out the hard way, I have Joined simply to to share my roof repair and discovery's along the way to help others out.
And so I began with this.
The dodge truck club cab features Different roof styling lines than that of the single cab or duster/Ram charger.
However on that first new body style SINGLE cab of 1973 or 4? to 1979 the forward roof line matches up with that of the club cab approximately the first 19 to 20 inches. this is the main little source of information I wanted to share for thos with a F'd up Rotted out bit over the windshield.

I also used found that the Drip rail for over the windshield in all the 73(or 4?) to 93 150 200 250 300 350 trucks and the duster /ram chargers matches up right and the sheet steel body parts that go from forward door piller to piller over the windshield from such also work interchangeably (some stamping differences tho but will work)

and as follows are some more words and pictures.

Altho it turned out ok, a fellow could take more time in a proper shop and have it look better I needed it back on the road asap. so I spent less time than I wanted block sanding. While it was apart I did my best to remove any rust and or rot and then used up a few bottles of Eastwoods rust reformer stuff followed by cold galvanize and then epoxy pimer and got it all down into the pillars and such. After final block sanding it was covered in 3 coats of epoxy primer and 3 coats of paint... very cheep paint... now to paint the whole truck... when I have the time and weather permits.

BC847 Thanks for that, it was bugging the bjeesus outta me, what was it I was doing wrong when posting them?

ellis93 it took almost a year to find a cab in good enough condition, let alone find a donor cab/truck. I finally found a fellow on ebay that was parting a 76 out and he was able to ship the orange roof for a little less than 200 out the door...

That's a great job, you have a lot of time into that. I don't have the patience for that much work anymore.

I hear you there with having the patience, I build people cool stuff that looks superb for clients but then ya have a look at my rig and you might think a guys hard off. ha I am not always motivated with my personal projects, once there at the state of being usable I never finish em or it takes a few years. But this needed to be done. I had the down time in January to do it so it was done.
