crewcab short bed

Postby DodgeFreak » Tue Oct 27, 2015 9:35 pm

So I have another crewcab cab and I'm seriously thinking about putting it on my ex cab long bed frame because the cab on its bad and I want to have a truck while I fix my other crew. My question is. Would I be better off splicing the frame of the crewcab short bed onto my ex cab frame because the rear part of the ex cab isn't rusty but it has been cut and tweaked. I should be able to keep all my d shafts since they are the same wheel base. Correct? I would keep it titled as a 92 excab which shouldn't raise concern I wouldn't think.

I take it your trying to keep from having to mod the rear floors so you can use the ext cab frame? One way I've seen to get around that was a simple body lift. Other than having to solve the roadblocks associated with a body lift, it'd be easier than splicing frames, imho.

Don't really want to mod the rear floor or run a body lift to bad...I haven't spliced a frame before but since I have two to make one I thought it might be easier. Maybe not.

Dont blame you on not wanting a body lift, I think they look ugly as all hell, but its a quik and easy way to get clearance.
If I had to choose between body mods or splicing the frame, id splice the frame. Biggest thing is to make sure its square and level when your done, no twists or "dog legging". Last one I helped with was a good weekend, but we weren't in a hurry, alot of beer was drank, setup was the longest part.
Just make sure you prep your joints, put some sort of Z into your frame when you splice it, and fishplate the joint when your done, and should work out fine
