door latch

Postby greasemonkey » Sat Mar 01, 2008 9:21 pm

right door has been having issues staying latched and finally gave up altogether. I took the latch out and cleaned all the grease/dirt buildup out and it helped. problem now is there's a plastic piece that's broken. long story short, I can put it back in and will be able to close/open the door but will not be able to lock it.

where do I find a door latch? will Dodge still have that or do I have to look at Napa or somewhere else? and does anyone know what year this latch will go back to for cross reference? I'll check on monday with my local dealer, they're pretty good about being able to find stuff and we get a business discount.

The plastic latch rod catch should still avaible from the dealer. It was used on many year models. That part hasn't changed much over the years.

I think you can get that rod catch at most auto parts on the "Help" rack too.

found that thread by wannadiesel, that's a pretty good parts source...I'll have to remember to check for stuff there before I go in to the parts dept, they really like when I have a PN available and just have to verify it there instead of looking it up.

for now, I just left the lock rods off so I can use the door, just can't lock it. driver's latch is pretty worn, along with the hinges...I have some fun door rebuilding in my near future!!
