That's what I did to get it through a safety, but, that isn't exactly the solution I'm looking for, traditionally, I only tow 3-4 times a year, and, I really don't need the truck a foot wider than it should be all the time(read that as it doesn't spend all it's time on pavement.) They may come in handy for plowing come the winter, but, the stock mirrors are plenty 99% of the time for me.
For now, it's OK, but, I'd like to replace that cracked housing.
