Anybody have cab mounts?

Postby PToombs » Sun May 25, 2008 3:43 pm

Hi guys. I pulled my cab off today, and my mounts are whipped. 3 out of the 4 are really bad. Holes rotted bigger, 2 are cracked to the edge.
Does anybody have any decent ones they want to get rid of?

I'm trying to make some progress on my project, and it seems like I get stuck at every step!

Thanks guys!

Pete, I've got a 75 club cab I'm getting ready to part out/scrap. It was a Washington state truck, real good condition etc. I'll take a look at the cab mounts. If they're any good I'll cut em out and send them to ya.

Bill, thanks, I appreciate it. I'm trying to move foward, but it's always something.
I noticed yesterday afternoon that the trans mount rubber is 1/2 way out of the bracket! Good thing I'm doing 6-7 things to the truck all at once, when I get stalled on 1 thing I can go on to something else!

Richie, my truck wont see winter again either. I'll walk to work before I drive it in the salt. Where in NE are you?

On the midcoast of Maine. I used to be a cause of rot up here. I used to work on the Camden Maine public works. My route was a salt only route. I used to paint grease on my oil pan in the C8500 7 yard truck I used. It had 10 thousand miles on it and the 3116 cat pan was crusty already. We had a 2 1/2 inch hose to was things down with and that helped some but what a mess. Calcium cloride is worse on metal. If you get it on your skin it burns like battery acid.

Bill, want pics to compare the mounts? Any idea on the time frame on this?

Richie, I agree, calcium sucks too! You know there is a bunch of guys with diesels in Maine? I think there's a club up there. I know it was discussed on NETDP

Ya. there are a few diesels up here and they have a diesel weekend at a dragstrip 45 min away. They also have a dyno day in the fall in Bangor which is about 1 hour from here. There is also a pretty good circuit of diesel truck pullers that do the fair thing all over the state. I think I might drag my truck this year. It is bracket racing so even a VW could win. There are a few trucks that when they drag the smoke is so bad they dissapear in the haze. That was where I saw my first 4 wheel drive burnout. I could not believe how he spun all 4. It was super cool. He did one run in 2 wheel and spun the whole 8th mile.

I was on NETDP after I was on earlier, there was a dyno day up there someplace over the weekend.

I wish there were more diesel type things here. We're working on it! ;)

Yeah Pete send me pics of your mounts. I've already started parting the truck out, so I could send them to you this week.

OK Bill, I gotta find batteries for the camera. I keep telling the wife "Duracell!" what's she come home with? Chinese batteries from the dollar store. 1 pic and the camera was dead. :grrr:

Best way to remove cab mounts?

Cab mounts as in riveted to the frame.

Can I use the torch and burn out the rivet from the inside of the frame rail? Or do I have to work at the head of the rivet with the 4" grinder, the punch out the rivet?

Cab mounts change any between 75 and Pete's model year, 92?

I'd use the torch on the inside. If this is going to be your trailer, I wouldn't cut the frame. ;)

Philip, those are the cab mounts? How about a trans mount?

Pete I'll most likely grind the head off then punch it out so as to not ruin your mounts. No worries.
