Where do you guys have speakers?

Postby PToombs » Sun Sep 07, 2008 6:16 pm

I need to find a spot for speakers. I don't need a super sound system that puts out 40 gigawatts of power.
All I'm putting in is a pair of 6x9's. I may add some 4" ones to the doors later. I had 4 inchers in the doors, but they don't last. I think they get wet. I had a piece of plastic over them to protect them, (2nd set) didn't make a difference. Last summer I put the 6x9's in the tray behind the seat, but I don't want them sliding around.
Does anybody have any ideas? It looked like I could mount them in the rear corner panel, just below the upper 2nd skin. I'd have to make a bracket, and the door post isn't really strong enough right there to mount it.
TIA!

My 90 gasser, as well as my 91 D250, had them in the rear corners of the cab and in the doors.. Both are LE models.

I guess if it came down to it, you could always do this

I have 6x9's in my doors, you just gotta make sure that they are water resistant. A lot of good speakers are without getting high end. In the old chevy I had I bought wood 6x9 speaker boxes from the local car stereo shop to put the speakers in, and then put them behind the seat. They stayed put good, you could even bolt the box down if you wanted.

Most came from the factory with 6x9s in the doors and 4x10s in the cab corners. You could probably find a pair of the plastic covers for the doors in a junk yard. Th wooden 6x9 boxes are pretty cheap and fit nicely behind the seat. You can take the speaker out and run a couple screws through the tray if you like.

Off the top of my head,.....I think the door had 4" ones in it. I have to pull the panel on the passenger side to fix the window regulator, I'll have to make sure.
I didn't really want to lose tray space with speakers. I wondered if they fit in the corners?

I fit 6x9's into the corners on my cab. I drilled the existing bracket for the new holes and it took a bit of wedging to get the wider speakers to fit, but they ended up mounted in the stock position with no sheet metal fabrication.

I have Pioneer three-way 3x9's all the way around, they haven't had any problems with moisture in the doors. They sound great.

I changed the regulator the other day. There were 4" round in the doors, but the holes were long, 4 or 6 x 9. The speaker was junk! The paper was all rotted out. That's the one that had a piece of plastic over it to protect it.

I have 6x9s in the doors and thats all for now. Got 4x6s to stab back in the rear corners. Then Im going with an amp and sub again, gonna build my own full console with speakers in the middle and a sub underneath. Ill see just what all I can rattle loose.
