Need gasket/grommet for light above window on back of cab

Postby Ironforger » Tue Nov 25, 2008 2:50 pm

Hello,

I have a 1990 W250 5speed. The rubber gasket/grommet is shot/dry rotted for the light thats on the back of the cab above the back window center.

Whenver it rains, water gets in through this and ends up on the floor. Luckily the truck is still rust free, and I've removed the mats so they don't soak up water until I can fix this.

Problem is, the dealer says this gasket/grommet is no longer avail.

Does anyone know where I can find it?

Thanks!

In a case like that, I'd probably try to replace the gasket with some black rtv. Put a nice, thick bead all around the edge of the light fixture and let it set for an hour or 2 until it starts to firm up. Then install the light just enough to locate the screws with it down all around, but not tight. Let it sit overnight and then tighten the rest of the way.

I'd do sorta like Ace. Difference is, I'd put the light on when it's still wet, then tighten later.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Thanks for offering Terryblue, but I wont need the gasket material. I've set it up with RTV, sealed it good. However, I still have leak somewhere, I'm assuming it might be the rear window gasket, and possibly the front window gasket too.

I havent had time to focus on this, but I've taken out the mats in the meantime so they don't soak up water.

had leak in mine, found water seeping thru holes made for trim on side of cab. also, pull kick panels and reseal with rtv. old foam gasket looses shape over years
