3rd gen. seats in a 1st gen.

Postby jeff77indy » Thu Dec 11, 2008 12:36 pm

Any body done this? Will it work?
I like the looks of the bench buckets in the 2003 1500 trucks. The low back looking ones with head rest and center console.
Need to swap out the bench seat in my '92 W350.

I know of a few people over on the DTR who have 3rd gen seats. I'll see if I can find a link for you.

Falcon, what did it take to put those in? How much did they cost? I am assuming those were from a junkyard. Those look pretty nice. I really need to replace the seat in my truck.

Thanks, I'd appreciate it. I need to swap the seat out before May. I don't want to be sitting on the current seat all the way to Oklahoma and back.

If you arent too long legged they will. I have them in mine, and with the seat all the way back they are just right. Im 5'11''. However, mine are from a base 03. Cloth, but they are hard and not too comfortable. If I do more stuff to my truck I will stick some late model Chevy premium cloth buckets in it.

A guy I know got a new 07 a year ago and in the fall of last year he installed new leather seats front and back, I got the whole sets including frames and seat belts for $350.00 they only had 17000 mile of but ware on them and are in new condition. I still have the front frame and console and the complete back seat to get rid of. And no the back seat won't fit our trucks I tried it. It's too deep and there is not enough room behind the front seats to mount it.

FWIW, I attempted the install of a set of the 40/20/40 seats from a '95 into my '89 gasser. HA!!! That was a joke. The seats and center console are on factory risers that set the whole deal up too high in the cab for me. Placing the driver seat only in position, my eyes were level with the top of the window. And forget about wearing a hat like that. I cut the risers off, and they sat too low, and I couldnt get the angle correct from front to back. So I scrapped the seats and kept the console. I got a set from an '00 Stratus. Power driver, manual pass. for $40 (woo-hoo!) and built a base that fit the factory contour of the floor. They are comfy, BUT... The factory seats in our trucks are of a low-back design to allow full seat track-travel. The back of the cab, under the rear glass, has a "cut-out" that allows the low-back seats to pass under, allowing the seat to extend further rearward, under the window. A high-back seat, like the 2nd-gen seats cannot utilize this, allowing restricted legroom. I am 6-2, and if I had it to do again, would probably just put a stock bench seat in. It isnt a DD, just a toy, so extended time in the seat isnt a concern. I can get pics of the seat-base if wanted, or anything else if it would help. BTW, my 5-2 wife loves them! Go figure... And its a reg-cab

Thanks for the info Falcon. I guess I'd better start measuring and see if I can figure out what will fit.
