sagging headliner

Postby mcarmaniac » Thu Dec 18, 2008 4:22 pm

My head liner is sagging really bad. What is a good solution for it? I like how the 89's have that piece on them. Did the 89 extended cab have a carbord piece instead of fabric too or just the dually's? Does anybody have a picture of that in their extended cab 89?

mine is held in with these little plastic screw deals. They have a clear plastic head with a little mettle screw on them. A buddy of mine found them at a fabric/sewing store.

I just replaced mine in my 93. I cleaned all the old liner off and cut me a piece of material of your choice from an upholstery shop and used a large tube of 3M 4300 to spread on the card board liner and set it in place. Keep in mind it takes about 3 days for it to set up good so you can smooth it out good and after it sets you can trim it. Mine turned out pretty good.

I bought a replacement kit from Eastwwood and it came out pretty awesome I must say. I have a 93 Club cab and had more than enough material.

i shoulda made a how to when i did the one in my ramcharger.

remove your old headliner. tear off all remaining fabric. 'scrub' the old glue off with a stiff bristle brush. hit up the local fabric stores for some headliner material. its foam backed, and specifically for headliners. i just saw some recently, and it was $11/yard. be prepared to have every woman in the place smile at you because you are a dude in a fabric store. go to walmart/oreillys/whatever auto parts store you have and buy some spray adhesive. get the best you can find. i used, and really liked, the 3M stuff in the red and black can, i cant remember the number of it though. its expensive, but worth it. spray your headliner carboard and fabric both with adhesive, and let it sit for a minutes until it gets tacky. follow the directions on the can. when its good and sticky, put the two pieces togther. rub out all wrinkles/bubbles/whatever doesnt look right. trim excess material from the egdes, leave about and inch or so hanging over the edges, maybe a little more in the front corners by the sunvisors. i left mine out in the sun for a few hours, not sure if you have to , but it made me feel better. hang it back in the truck and give it a final trim, youll see where you need to when you put it back up. put all the moldings and stuff back up, and youre done. its really not hard at all. when i did it in my ramcharger, it was my first attempt, and it came out awesome. not to mention, it was a ramcharger, and needed a huh? of material.

my new 1/2ton doesnt have a headliner. im gonna make one for it. ill take pics and do a bit of a how to if youre not in much of a hurry, should be this summer sometime.
