dually bed on srw truck

Postby mprmn08 » Fri Jan 02, 2009 9:13 pm

will a dually fit the same on a srw truck or are any of the mounting holes or anything different? also if i wanna keep it a single wheel can i just take off the "fender flares" that are on the dually bed?

The bed bolt pattern is the same between SRW and dually's.

The dually bed has a lot larger wheel opening when you remove the flairs. It about 3" or so higher into the body line than a SRW bed is.

If the bed was real nice I would put on patch panels that were made for a single wheel body. That would atleast correct the wheel opening.

see thats the thing. is my bed is pretty shot (tweaked rusted and what not) and a dually bed is the only one i've found so far and its a southern bed and in MI :D so, so far everything is good except the dually part. if i can pick it up for pretty cheap then i'll probably get it. i had even thought about makin mine a 250 dually just cause of that. but im not sure. i just wanted to know what the differences were. what year trucks will interchange with ours also. is it 81-93 or earlier?

Re: dually bed on srw truck

Postby terryblue2002 » Tue Jan 06, 2009 12:12 am

The dually bed will look goofy on a SRW . Other than that it will bolt up fine. I have several srw beds I dont need. I would gladly trade you one of mine for your dually if you like. I also have several utility beds both single and dual rear wheel . You are welcome to one of them as well . Give me a call if you are interested.. thx...///Terry 301-933-5277

What all is involved in changing a SRW to a DRW. For example my W350 is a SRW, are the rear axles the same and you just need to change the rims with a hub spacer or something? or do you need to swap out the axle?

From what I have read about SRW 350's (on the DTR  ) you would more than likely need to swap out the axle.

mprmn08, if you want to convert your 250 to a Dually, then I don't see why you wouldn't get the dually bed. If you are thinking of converting just because it is the only bed you can find, then I would just wait for a little while, and I'm sure a nice SRW bed will show up.

$975 doesn't sound too bad. It's $675 for a boxside skin. Tailgates are easy to come across too. Another one will turn up though, they're out there.

i woulda left it sitting too! when i converted my d250 to a drw, i bought a bed that matched most of my truck (it was black, the truck black and silver) with 4 yr old paint and the flares were new at the time of the paintjob. came with a tailgate and all the lights. the price was $500. i put a want ad on tdr and several people contacted me. the one i got was from some guy that was tired of it taking up room in his shop. put out want ads on the truck sites, you'd be surprised at what comes available.

Not sure on the years but be aware that in those years that will fit the trim may be different. If you have a 90 with the clip on trim it will need those pesky tabs for the plastic clips to hook to. They are so much fun to sand around on a repaint.

Dually bed!

Postby Augie Dog » Sun Oct 25, 2009 6:42 pm

MPRMN08 look in the Diesel Truck Resource 1 st. Gen. classifieds. There is a guy in New Jersey with several single wheel 8 ft. beds for sale. The price is better than the guy you were dealing with. Jersey is not that far from Michigan unless you are in the U.P.! Good Luck!!
