Vinyl instead of carpet anyone tried these?

Postby redneckroot » Tue Apr 21, 2009 7:30 pm

Has anyone tried one of these to replace their carpet? I hate the way carpet holds moisture and rots out the floor boards.

No, but if you do try it let us know how it works out... I would love to ditch the carpet.

That's probably the way to go if you want to do the minimalist thing for a work truck or off-roader. You are probably gonna find a vinyl mat will hold moisture and rot the floors even faster than carpet.

I notice it comes with the jute pad. That will help with noise, but will hold the moisture just like carpet.
I couldn't believe how much noise the stock rubber mat and the padding cuts out. Big difference!

If carpet and mats hold moisture, would rinoliner under the pad and mat keep moisture out and cut down the noise?

I had some of that vinyl in my old (rumblefish's) D350. Not bad, but I'd install some more sound proofing under it, preferrably the water resistant kind. It is definitely loud with just the vinyl.

And for what it's worth, the carpet has a thick rubber backing, so either one will rot the floor if you get water in the cab.
