Leaking Vent

Postby Dieselhick » Fri Aug 07, 2009 2:10 pm

How can I stop that floor vent near on the left side of the cab from leaking? Has anyone tried anything that has worked?

Probably the windshield - that's just where you're seeing it come out.

The panel vent may well be leaking, mine was. I went to Lowes and got some Frost King Rubber Foam Weatherseal, 1/2"wide, 9/16" thick, 10 feet long. Adhesive on 1 side. It's a little thick, but I squeezed it in there. I'm waiting for the next rainy day to see if that stops it. I pulled the 3 bolts and moved the E-brake over out of the way.
Double check the windshield too, they can leak bad there.

I'm thinking the rubber flapper on the cowl drain has a load of debris parked behind it acting like a log jam.

The waters coming down the inside of the fender and coming in the cab, there is no debris in the cowl, ive had it all apart. I need to get this leaking dealt with before i put my carpet back in.

Option #2; seal off the vent

Postby BobS » Sat Aug 08, 2009 3:02 am

Remove the kick panel. Cut a cardboard template from the shape of the vent opening. Transfer the pattern to a sheet of body steel. Cut the steel to the pattern. Paint the steel panel on both sides. Drill two holes in the panel and mount to the vent opening using screws and silicone sealer.
Remove vent door from kick panel and mount.

I just did this a few days ago, I used 1/8" aluminum to cover the hole though. It had been leaking for a couple of years, but I was not looking forward to fixing the common cowl crack(thats what I thought was leaking). But since I broke my right ankle a few weeks ago,and cant drive my big truck, I have had lots of time to tackle stuff. So after taking the left fender off, I could not find a crack. So, I pulled the carpet out and with a garden hose spraying down the well, I had a river of water. So I pulled the E-brake pedal out, removed the kick panel, removed the vent from the kick panel, fabbed up a cover out of aluminum, sealed it up, now no more leak. I have never used that vent anyway. :!:

I do understand, but here in Oklahoma there are only two temps, Extremely hot(requiring AC) or extremely cold(requiring heater) so the vent, in my case was not needed. It probably would be handy to have if you were cruising the coast of Maine looking for a lawnmower with a 4" Stans pipe though.

I was thinking as I read that, "that sounds like Richies gig right there!"

It downpoured here earlier in the week. 2-3 inches over night. No water in the cab! 8)
