91 gasser cab swapped on to a 91 CTD

Postby ems_kws » Sun Mar 28, 2010 6:14 pm

What would be involved in putting a gasser cab on a diesel frame. I am assuming everything will bolt in place but I am mostly concerned about the electrical system. The gasser is very nice with a great interior and paint and my CTD cab is munched a little everywhere. I just want to gather all the info before I tear into the work. Niether have cruise, powerwindows or tilt. It sure seems like it outta be painless.

The cab should swap on with no changes, but keep all the diesel wiring.

What are the specs on each truck? The floor hump may be different. Auto, 4x4, ect. The auto 2 wheel peels had a small hump that won't clear the transfer case or a stick.

Both are 4wd, manual tranny, standard cabs. Will I need to pull the diesel electrical in the dash out and put it in the new cab?

Farmboy has it right. You need to swap the complete diesel cab wiring harness over to the gasser cab. The cabs are exactly the same other than that.

Thanks, this is exactly the info I needed. My ctd doesnt have the intercooler. Are the radiator crossmembers the same? I looked at the gasser today and it looked the same to me. The old gasser has a really tight body, good seals and several other good parts. I think I might just trade all the parts back and forth so I'll have a thrash rig and a reliable rig.

So three years later I am finally expecting to finish the body swap. A blown tranny, starting college at 31, getting married, and having our first baby, and a few other things sidelined the project. Now we are heading out in June to resurrect the beast. It hasn't been fired up for two years but my brother put a battery in it and said it fired right up on the first rotation.
I have to replace the tranny with the Blumenthal tranny that has been shipped, new clutch, replace the broken front springs, new shocks, and air bags for the rear.

I want to finish the body swap since the bed and cab are already painted up. I'm not sure on the front clip but I think I finished painting it. The doors will need a bondo skim in a few spots and painted. The interior will be a mix of grey, red and tan trim so I will paint it up to be a nice tan. The A/C will have to be fixed because we will be travelling around most of the summer. I have most of the parts to install a full relay actuated trailer brake/light setup but it will take a bit of time to install.

I still need to get a getrag 360 shift knob and the right transfer case shifter knob, tan saddleblanket seat cover(cover up that hot vinyl), new windshield and wipers, rear glass, and probably something else I've forgot. Any one giving some of this stuff away?

All this in a week and a half with two buddies to help that have just a little experience. Any thoughts? After its done We will be towing all our stuff back to the east. Seems like a good time to teach my wife how to shift a manual and tow a trailer. Right now it look like we will be driving about 7500 miles.

Wow sounds like you have a heck of a lot of work to do in a short time. Glad to see your sticking with it though. Where are you located now and where are you moving to?

Currently located in central Ga and we are making a trip to bring all of our stuff that is out west to our current location. I might have to put the truck up for sale when we get it all out here. Depends on finances.
