dually to single wheel?

Postby BREEZE1 » Tue Sep 28, 2010 6:17 am

Hey guys, I have a quick question that could possibly be answered by one of you fairly easily. I have a dually truck without a bed, and I was thinking of putting a long bed on it and going to the standard 2500 8 lug wheels. I noticed on the front rotor has an adapter bolted on to it for the dually wheel. Would it be possible to unbolt that adapter and put some lug studs through those holes? And on the back I'm guessing the standard 2500 8 lug wheel would fit, but it would have extra long studs?

thanks pirates!

Is it a 4x4 1st gen dually? Why not sell it to me then buy a single wheel 1st gen? Pm me if your interested :)

I'm not sure if you can put the front adapters on the rear but I'd recommend putting the single wheel axle on the truck.

What about just using third gen wheels? Don't they have a 3" inward offset that would put the tires in about the right location?
I been wanting to try this but I haven't been able to borrow a set of third gen wheels for testing purposes.

I have a 1-ton 4x4 ex-dually... I run the 2008 or so 8 lug chevy wheels. You have to have the centers machined out to fit the hubs but the offset is kinda nice. gives the truck a wider stance.

Otherwise, you have to purchase the single wheel hubs....about $500.00 worth.

Its a 2wd. (MATCHEW) I was planning on using the 3rd gen 8 lug wheels. so there shouldn't be any problem?? Mine being 2wd I wouldn't need to machine for the front axle hub, correct?? You said that it has a wider stance could you possibly post a pic sometime? Are your wheels on the same plane going down the side of your truck? I'm sorry for drilling you with all these questions.. Thanks!

i converted my 91 d250 from srw to drw using factory parts. the front is simple, jsut go to the parts store and buy rotors for a srw truck. new wheel bearings, or at least a repack, wouldnt hurt either. i would think the rear would be fine, just get some tapered seat lugs and drill out the holes in the wheel to fit over the 5/8" studs. you may need to keep an eye on where your tire ends up in relation to the wheel opening on your bed. wrong offset, tall tire, or whatever, could cause them to get real personal if you know what i mean.
