Spencer, engine was stock 90% of its life so I can't exactly give you a good example of how more hp affected it.

Most i have done at around 300k are showing a decent amount of copper on rod bearings. Some worse than others(application dependent) Mains have minor scratching. Most CAT motors I do around 20,000 hrs bearings look much better. Couldn't tell ya exactly why, maintenance, conditions, load etc

The fedex engine I put in my 01 showed heavy rod bearing wear(not necessarily damage), otherwise appeared lower mile.

Take that with a grain of salt I'm no expert engine builder it's just what they prefer me to do at work lol

That's cool, I wish we did more tear down & rebuild. Unfortunately, a relatively "dirty" shop environment combined with customers that want their tractors back yesterday don't lend to engine rebuilds where I work

Fuel: THD 6x10 VCO sticks, THD 12 psi piston pump, THD fuel pin, 366 spring, fuel screw 2 turns in, timing to the head/ >1/4”
Muffler delete

Minimum 60% WMO full time since Sep. 2018

That's the main battle is cleanliness. Dirt lot, The shop is basically a dust trap. Crusher shows up and makes it 5x worse. I'm in a terrible environment to build engines but dont have much choice.


Rundown of what I did,

Rod/Main bearings
Full gasket set, OEM HG
Head resurfaced to 60ra, Mild bowl porting, port match
Genuine 60lb springs,lapped valves
Oil pump
Ve reseal,soda blasted,mh spacer without shim,clipped 366spring, hd plunger return springs (had a broken one which was causing a slight lope)
Coolant bypass
Skipped 1 tooth timing
Tried another set of Allen headbolts, rocker pedestal bolts stretched, used stockers.
TCS 89% converter
Resealed np205
Welded bung in side of engine oil pan in prep for compounds, welded drain bung in 518 pan
Sound deadener on firewall and currently cleaning up wiring.

Good night you got things done! Love the gold fuel lines. Did you say you loctited the front VE already?

Yeah I used green retaining compound on the seal and peened a couple spots around it.

Which reminds me I need to put the heavier spring back in the piston pump.

Back to work :roll:

Ready for winter to be over. Hopefully this is the last time I have to use it as a plow truck :/ Its turning into more of a street/play truck than a work truck

Hows that converter compared to stock?
'90 D250 R/C,727,IC,6x.009's,1/8" bump,fuel psi,straight pipe w/5" stack.
'90 W250 R/C,47rh,K@N,HX35,1/8" bump,2nd gen IC,boost,egt,trans temp.3.07's.
'96 2500 S/C L/B,2wd,NV5600,3.54 L/S,cai,egt,pacbrake,mbrp exhaust,10 plate.
Bring back the Bank of Canada, PRE- 1974.

Only plowed with it so far, which it isn't the best for, but it is no doubt much tighter than stock.

Give it the lightest touch of throttle and it goes.

I'll follow up but it seems like it's going to be damn good.

Took it for a drive,

Had a bit of midrange stutter, backed off pump timing some and took care of that.

Truck is a completely different animal. The 351 is lit right off idle, each gear change actually loads the engine down and just pulls. Half throttle pulls like full throttle before the converter(and gov spring)

I'm really happy with it. Trying not to go crazy and let the HG seat in for a while.
