Yeah,I guess I could be whining about the suspension, wiring,or Chitty brakes like the dodge guys ;)

No I knew I needed baffles,it's the weight thing I am (was really now) worried about. That tank alone will tip the scales at a buck twenty all by itself, add fuel.....then your heavy  . I'll have to watch myself getting on it while I'm sporting that tiny 10bolt rear :x

Finished painting the tank....6 coats of a thin bed liner paint. Installed the fuel level sender and the shut off valve/hose barbs.

Got the doors sprayed as well,I'll start installing the guts back in them this afternoon.
It's sad to say I may have to lay off of it for a little while in favor of building a set of kitchen cabinets for a friend.....that pays money :D

Well got the doors on and lined up the fenders and bed to the cab/door body line. It's starting to shape up some
Image
Also dropped the fuel cell in the bed with strips of mud flap underneath

It's starting to take much longer to work on :? I've got to the tedious part of building a vehicle......the body lineup and now body work. The brother in law will now take over as point man and I will be the grunt/gopher. I hate being that

Oh and God smiles on me today.....I found a PERFECT velour seat

From BS thread:
ellis93 wrote:Caleb I'm building my 82 2hrs at a time.....I think you could paint "pieces" in that amount of time

As you just said, this is the tedious part. I want to do it right and to the best of my ability because this is what everyone will see. I could care less what the engine bay looks like or if the under side of the truck is clean enough to eat off of

I can't have metal prepped, set up my paint stuff, spray paint, and clean up in 2 hours and get any measurable amount of painting done.

BUT, I have a good block of time today so I'm going to get my butt of the interweb and DO WORK!

I'm talking about area covered in a certain amount of time. It'll be fender here....door there....same as you but I have to get the time in ;)

Also Eastwood makes a etching primer in an aerosol can too, spray what you need....no mixing required. That'll save time, but costs big $. :(

Truck moves under it's own power now

Had a bad experience with it too.....ran that bastardized truck out of fuel TWICE :o

I had been running it out of a 5gallon fuel can and decided to put the return line to the fuel cell.....bad move. That lift pump can push some fuel,it drained that full fuel can in about 2min and pushed it in the tank. It was a total butthole to get primed again. After that I moved it around the shop to get it on a lift and it sucked air again and died cause there wasn't enough fuel in the tank to keep the suction submerged. I went and bought 30gallons of fuel right then

Does your return drop into the bottom of the tank? Or does it end up near the top? If it ends near the top it may also let air back in and the fuel may drain back on you. Just something to think about. ;)

Pete...my return is at the top of the tank. I just got back from the shop and I cranked it after sitting all night, thing fired right up :D

If it starts sucking air from the return,or draining back rather,a check valve should take care of it.....right?

Something else to think about is diesel foaming because it isn't returned below the fuel level.

Ummmmm, maybe! Any time I have had a fuel tank out or apart, the return goes in below the fuel level.
I was just looking at the pic, does that hex come out of the tank? Is that a bushing? Pull it and thread it from the inside to NPT, then put a barbed fitting inside and put a hose on it. A small piece of brake line in the end will hold it done on the bottom. Problem solved!

That bushing is welded in the tank wall......I might just find a piece of brake tubing long enough to reach the bottom, cut off the flare from one end, slide it thru the hose barb, then bend it toward the bottom of the tank. It should swivel that way,and allow the tubing to go to the bottom of that tank. That barb has a 5/16th hole so the flow shouldn't be hurt that bad ;) idk tho :?
