Hey those little engines are hell of a engine if you keep the oil changed and checked. We have half a dozen that are 2+ years old and ran hours every week.

Some hate harbor freight, but I have realistic expectations for their goods. Something with absolutely no moving parts MAY last a few years with some luck, like a screw driver or a wrench. I painted several coats with their HVLP gun, but promptly threw it away in stead of cleaning it after the last coat. Power tools, NFW man. Wouldn't even take them if they were free.

I'm just jealous that Ellis can paint in February

It's 70° right now......crazy weather, and it's getting me sick as a dog. Regardless I won't be able to paint right now anyhow, the drives side bed rail is giving me fits. I'm having a hard time getting a few low spots out.

Some of the HF power tools are.......ok. as long as they're corded. I've a hand sized router that I've used the crap out of. But realistically I wouldn't go professional with they're tools. Hell I won't use their end wrenches at all, your just asking for a broke hand or at least missing knuckle skin.
I've had good luck with their powder coating kits. I spray it on lead bullets so it acts like a jacket, works pretty good.

I have a HF 20 ton press that was given to me, it works well for what it is. Beats taking things to work to press bearings on and off. I have used their air tools before, they just don't have enough "oomph" behind them to work to my standards, but simple hand tools and what not, HF stuff is ok. I bought a media blaster last spring to use on small stuff for rebuilding my pile and I tell ya what, for HF, it works very well, especially when using black slag media. HF stuff is hit and miss, but that media blaster was a definite hit.

I got a HF HVLP paint gun, tried to spray my cab, and it splatter painted it. Good thing I started under the valance to see how it worked. ;) I tried to adjust it and gave up, I dumped the paint into my old Devilbiss suction gun, and blew it down. Most of you guys have seen my truck, it looks good for being shot with a 25 or 30 year old gun. I don't paint a lot, I've probably done 7 or 8 cars and trucks with it, but it still works good. For what I do, I don't think I'll buy an HVLP gun, it's not worth it, and nfw I'd spend $230 on one!

I didn't Pete.....I just bought 3 at summit for 202$,all devilbiss. It's a master series Kit,one gun for jambs, one for primer, and one for base and top coat. It may seem retarded to spend this money but I'm planning on painting my dodge,my pops Toyota, and whatever else I want. I can't stand paying someone else to do work I "could" do so I'm gonna give it a try.

See, if you'd had that opinion in the beginning you'd be done with it and driving it now!

buy a cheap gun and try it on an old hood or something...

the problem with cheap guns is you misfits don't know how to mix and spray paint.

I used a $475.00 gun and a $16.00 gun and can't tell one iota of difference, as long as it is clean and the paint is mixed correctly, oh and the reducer
is the correct heat range, and the humidity is low, and the ambient temp is good, and it's a fairly clean room.

just remember......fog on the base coat and lay on the clear.

I can't paint either. ..I just know how to sand and buff.....

All joking aside, just practice on an old fender a few times and it will come to you pretty quick, one of the biggest things that
amateur guys don't do is get a light positioned where you can see the reflection of what you are doing, for instance...

when your doing the lower parts of the truck lay a 4ft florescent light on the floor and watch the spray pattern of what is
hitting the truck, you can get your over lap and amount of paint on nice on smooth.

when spraying the base you need to see down into the color, to make sure you have coverage, you don't care about shinny with the base.

I like to put 1.5 gal of clear on an entire truck, and it only takes about 3 qts of base.

when your practicing spray it heavy just to see how much it takes to make it run, then stop just before that... ;)

If I ever get around to wet sanding and polishing my truck it should look like that. I had just put my badges back on and Snoot posted before and after polishing pics of his truck. Depressed the hell outta me! :(

All finished with the main body

Driver side is Nice and straight....after a half gallon of bondo and lots of sand paper.

This morning I sprayed the bed with a Upol liner that I bought off ebay. It's not thick like rhino liner but not thin like that brush/roll on junk. Overall I like it. :) it covers the ugly well

I got my guns in just a few minutes ago so maybe I'll have some primer/surfacer on it in the next few days.

Hey Ellis, wet sand the side with 600 on a small 3m sanding pad, then dry it and put a light down at one end
then get back down at the other end and look at the reflection of the light, you will be able to see just how strait
you have it before you start painting, this has brought a small ding to my attention before that I mite have missed.

it does look pretty dang good though.

how much of the bed liner did you buy.

Dar that is a Kit they sell for doing one bed,4 liters of coating and a can of activator.......supposedly it makes a gallon of useable coating. I still have about a qt of stuff left to do the tailgate with.
That mess is very, very easy to use. It's hard as hell right now,I've already stomped around on it measuring for new holes to route fuel line thru.
I'm doing away with the fuel cell idea, now I'm using an aluminum fuel transfer tank new to the front of the bed so I can actually use this thing as a truck.
This has came about becuase the dodge has revealed a nasty secret to me :(
