03 F-550 swap

Postby Tacoclaw » Wed Apr 06, 2011 8:30 am

Not a whole lot to say about this, since we just bought a conversion kit and all, but I thought you guys might be interested in it:

(I'll swap them to thumbnails when I get home)

It had a 6.0 that refused to start once it had warmed up. It would start and run like new if it had been shut off for a day, but if it ran for more than 15 minute or so it would start losing power. If shut off it would refuse to start again until the next day. The company put about $4000 or so into trying to get it fixed, then we finally talked them into a Cummins. We called Destroked, since that's THE name that always comes up for this stuff, but when we asked about calling them if we got stuck, they basically (literally) said " if you have to ask how to do it, you shouldn't be trying it."

Needless to say, we called the FordCummins guys the next day and had a kit on the way. Went in easy enough, with no severe headaches, and anytime we called they did everything they could to get us back on track. Great company. 8)

The original owners, for whatever reason, ordered it with 4.88 gears, so it runs about 3K at 65 MPH. Other than that, it's a pretty sweet ride, and the old man's new baby.

Now you need to fix the fan shroud. It should say "Powerstroke I6". ;) A set of gears in the rear and it should be a nice rig for you. 8)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

They wanted to pop the Powerstroke V8 thing off the fan shroud, but I wouldn't let them. 8)

He's talking about looking for gears for it, but it's got some monstrous axle in the rear, a Dana 135 I believe. I want no part in trying to tear in to that thing. :?

Thanks, Catman, If you'd stop by more often, you'd be more up to date on how much junk we can keep running. The other guy said you've just been sleeping all day lately.

the Dana 135 the pumpkins come out from the housing like a big truck or 9 inch ford and gears are available. I'm looking to get some of those axles myself... is yours 4wd? what trans..
How is the power?...and mileage. I have a 05 excursion I want to swp and a 2000 excursion that is already swapped..
Thanks,
