SUPER CREW!!!

Postby m880cummins » Mon Sep 03, 2012 11:09 am

Here we go! I want to have it done before January so I can enjoy my last year of High School with this beast!

Parts gathered so far:

NP205 29 spline
IC Rad support
12v P pump engine
Jungle Shackle Flip

I looked at this truck. Beautiful body no rust anywhere at ALL! Price was killer at 4K for a rolling body basically.

Image

Looking at this '78. Price is good and negociating pick-up. It is an 8 hour drive away

Image

Here's what I am going for. Mango Tango (jeep color) short bed, 4" lift, NV4500, P pump, twins, 35" toyos with Moto rims. Here's a close picture of what I want to do:

Image

If I go with the '78 I will use the '78 grille like this. Not sure what body style I want to use for fenders, doors and bed (whether 70s or 80s) but I will definitely use the 70s hood and interior.

Shackle flip thanks Alex!

Rad Support

205 29spline gasket and seal install. Needle bearings were not caged (pain in the A--) and Snap rings on shafts were a pain in the A-- as well. Really happy how it turned out though. I paid $400 for it and the reseal was $32. Was sandblasted before I got it also!

The bed (if and when I get the truck) will be used on a buddies rat rod truck but the fenders off the bed will be for sale.

Here's my "prototype" dash build.

This one is going in my buddies '89 that has the 70s interior swap. Has autometers, fabricated steel panel and still uses the 89 style HVAC control. Needs a couple more warning lights and a pyrometer but I really like it! Paint on the panel is Rustoleum truck lining. Pictures just don't do justice. I will probably do all Ultra-Lite gauges and tie in a headunit as well on the panel for mine.

The gauges are auto meter designer black and the boost gauge is an auto meter ultra lite. I'm running all ultra lite on the crew.

A member from the cumminsforum.com and I struck a deal on a crew cab. He's pretty close for me (4.5 hours) and I'm getting a pretty cherry cab, long bed frame (frame will be for sale), 6ft bed and rear D70 axle for a fair price.

Here's the cab!

Well, I AM ON CLOUD NINE!!!!!

Got a fair price on a crew cab that is 95% rust free! Really incredible shape for an East Coast truck! Woke up at 7am and made the 500 mile round trip with my buddy yesterday to Southern Virginia to get this! I also got a short bed box for the short bed frame I will be getting. Came with a clear title and was a Big Block stick shift truck. It received a different trans so they modified the floor for it. I'm planning on installing a removable trans tunnel out of a 1970s truck.

Gutted the cab today!

The only rust is in the drip rail so I will have to deal with that but not bad. Floors are perfect, all pillars are perfect, rockers, doors and cab mounts: again, perfect. I also made a deal with the seller and bought the fenders off this truck that were removed when I got there as they are straight and rust free.

Just a reminder...If you intend on using a manual transmission then now is the time to modify the firewall holes and drill the holes in the steering column bracket to mount the master cylinder. The harness plug gets moved exactly half its width towards the right. In the past I've used a cut out firewall section from a 93 Dodge Cummins truck as an overlay template bolted to the older style firewall. No firewall modifications are normally required if you use an automatic transmission setup.
