Well, I'm on week 10 out of 16 for my first semester of college. I went home 3 weeks ago to work on stuff and blow off some steam. I ended up wet sanding and buffing the 2 passenger side doors and also finished assembling Nicks 4bt short block.

Talking my cousin into buying this as a project. It is a 1989 W350 with hundreds of thousands of miles but a good starter truck with plenty of potential. Price is decent too.

Since up here at college, my brain has occasionally gone off on tangents on what I still want to do to this thing before I feel it is a close to done as I want it to be. In list of importance:

Install a better clutch (dual disc), while in there, replace 3rd syncro
Install a vintage air HVAC unit
Swap pitman arm out for a Ford one for better steering geometry
Paint hood and tailgate, finish wetsanding/buffing
Finish interior (floor mats, sound deadener, rear seat, install a sub, front door panels)
Swap out injector pump for a different one
Rebuild turbo
Install Fox 2.0 shocks
Hook up fog lights
Install towing hitch
Purchase fuel and air PSI gauges as well as volt meter
Install on board air
Install aux fuel tank
Get truck bedlined
Possibly tint all windows to 30%

So, with this and the Dodge Dart wagon project, I'll be plenty busy over the holidays...

Well I took many steps forward on this thing over Thanksgiving break and only one step back. The one step back was driving home from my dads Thanksgiving night and blowing the headgasket. Coolant leaks out the side of the block now. Over this coming Christmas break, which starts next week, I plan to resurface the head (possibly O ring too), wet-sand and buff the other side of the truck, install a dual disc clutch, fix third gear syncro, install Vintage Air HVAC and finish up the interior (buy a carpet, find ramcharger front seats, add more sound proofing, install front door panels). I also will make up an emergency brake, install front driveshaft and fabricate a bracket for the 4x4 shifter.

Besides that, I painted the hood, tailgate, grille and fuel filler doors!

Also made these filler pieces on the sheet metal brake at my high school when I stopped in for a visit. They go between the grille and bumper:

Hey I am looking to run an aftermarket slave/clutch master in my truck. Did you use the stock slave cylinder or did you use an aftermarket one? If you used the stock slave then how did you bleed it out?

Thanks

Hey so I see you used an aftermarket clutch master cylinder. I am trying to figure out an aftermarket setup for my clutch hydraulic system. What exactly did you do for your slave cylinder? and once you installed the system how did you get it bled out if you used a stock type slave cylinder?

Thanks for the help. Truck looks great. Getting the hydraulics on my clutch is the last thing I need to be able to finish my swap and drive my crew.

As far as the clutch master, I used a Wilwood 7/8" lightweight master cylinder and the stock slave. Used a russell hydraulic adapter to use the slave with a braided AN3 stainless line. To bleed, I filled the master and sat under the truck and reverse bled it. By reverse bleed, I mean the slave is the lowest in the system and by hand you push the rod into the slave and let it come back out and do this about 20 times until there is no air. That's all it takes.

As for the truck, I have been driving it a lot! Blew two stock front driveshafts this winter so I made my own 1410 front shaft. Then I had to replace the block heater. 2 weeks ago, I blew the 3rd gear in the NV4500. Stripped all the teeth off the countershaft. Bought a gasser chevy NV4500 out of a Herr's potato chip truck and swapped my input, mainshaft and tailhousing into it along with brass syncronizers. While under the truck, I installed my South Bend DD clutch. Truck is back on the road and better than ever. Also installed are fox shocks in the back that are now not staggered and back to factory configuration somewhat.

Also bought another Crew Cab. This one is for my cousin. It is getting a 12v/47rh/Dana 80. Not restoring just updating the powertrain and making it a driver!

Pics flowing soon...

As you should all know, NO project is ever done...

To name a few things I still need to address:

front bucket seats
build a high pinion Dana 60
Line-X the inside of the bed
Finish inner fenders

However, heres a few things that have been done:

This winter I went through 3 front driveshafts due to my front driveshaft angle, tire size and HP.... so, it was time to address the problem. The current case with a boxed frame had no room for exhaust and I through a High Pinion front Dana 60 would be the "cat's meow". So the bank account (again) let in and I ended up buying all the parts to make my NP205 ford case a Dodge Diesel case. 29 spline input and coupler were bought as well as a chunk of 6061 billet T6 aluminum for my Lathe buddy. I just got it installed last week and the Diamond eye exhaust is ready for installation. The new case locates the driveshaft 1.5" lower towards the ground and the high pinion axle welds will be cut and pinion angle corrected for the lift. I also bought a triple stick stainless shifter for the transfercase. It is twin sticked and the third lever is for a parking brake which I still have to fab up.

I also changed up my rear shock setup going from staggered back to triangular. Also the shocks are mounted on top of the axle to stay out of harm's way.

Image

Other little things are a Tuff Wheel steering wheel, vintage air HVAC installed and I got some samples for the leather interior. I want to do the top left as perforated and with black leather as well.

Image

Image

Image

Blew the trans 3rd gear out so I bought another NV4500 out of a Chevy gasser and converted it to a diesel trans. This time, NO IMPORTED GEARS! Next time it breaks, I'll cyro everything or go 48RE LOL. Got a good deal on a South Bend DD too because my 500hp single was roasted!

Image

Image

Image

Also, tappet cover leaked again so I bought the well priced cover from TREX-TECH. It is truely an awesome piece!

Image

I also parted out an entire truck to get this 88k mile P7100 215hp pump. I put some shimmed 4k springs in it, modified the AFC and bench tuned it, ground my own plate and tweaked the progressive linkage... Picked up an easy 50hp by the seat of my pants

Image

Trying to make this truck something of a finished product. By the end of the year you will see me build my own front axle, bedline it hopefully, finish those inner fenders, do some more cosmetic work, install the exhaust and hopefully finish the interior!

Looking good!

Love that adapter! Now, why a 3 lever setup? I know about twin sticks but not really a 3 stick?

Lever III is for the parking brake I will fab up. It will be a disc with a mechanical caliper off the back of the transfer case. Trying to design a pivot lever so if you push it so far, it will swing over center and lock in rather than have a ratcheting mechanism.
