Go to page 3-4 for the update on this truck. My W250 burned. Page 5 for my D250 that I'm building up...erm...down?

I am finally gonna do it. My 1st Gen is officially becoming a fun drag truck.

So far I have gone 15.58 @ 80 something MPH. I am going to be dropping weight faster than Lindsay Lohan and getting very few go fast parts this year. This year is injectors, a turbo I happen to have (old tech but better than the H1C), hood stack, bed gutted, cab gutted, doghouse gutted, and possibly an auto trans. I am torn on the manual vs auto. I found some things to make the manual shift faster and more consistently but IDK is I want to give up a trans worth more un-modded. Decisions.

Ideas I have so far:

Racing seats
Converting the parking brake into a hand brake for boosted launches
Fuel cell
No IC
Battery relocation
Gutted bed (dont worry, the bed floor is rusty and multiple holes from stack, liquid chit tank, various other things)
Aluminum dash and custom gauge locations
Losing springs and dropping the truck lower

Later is I go the auto trans route:
Flappy paddle shifters
NP203 for AWD fun
Custom tuned 5R110

Hoping to be at 5500lbs this year and ultimate goal of 4900lbs. Shooting for 10's with the VE on fuel and water. Ultimately... ???

Hope you guys enjoy this!

Jon, is the truck going to be street legal or trailer to the track? Maybe use an electric brake lock to boost launch?

When launching in 4wd, occasionally my mess wants to push through the brakes at 25isp psig. :?

EDIT: Never mind, you have a manual trans now.

Thought of that but the problem is staging. You would have to get both bulbs lit and apply the switch, release the brake and get on the gas. IF you get 1 bulb lit, you would have to push through the brakes. If I use a handbrake, I can:

Put it in 2nd
Pull brake
Let out clutch
Slowly release brake while adding fuel
Pull brake at 1st bulb
Spool
Release and engage brake for 2nd bulb
Release brake and go to hit 3rd

No 3rd foot needed like a line loc.

David, manual for now but still going to try and boost. ;)

OH! Keeping it street legal for some fun when I want to. Like when the auto happens and I have flappy paddles to change the gears. 8) Anyone seen a full size diesel drift in AWD?

What does the truck weigh now? I can't believe it takes that much work to get below 5k lbs. My truck weigs 5300 lbs with me and a tool box in it.

Why the 5R? To be different?

So everyone knows what I am talking about. I know some of you are old(er) and may not be up on the new innovations of the auto industry. These are used mostly in DSG (double clutched automatic gearboxes) trans on higher powered/enthusiast cars so you don't take your hands off the wheel. Manufacturers like Audi, Lamborghini, Ferrari, VW, BMW, Bugatti, Jaguar, Volvo etc are all using these. There are people out there who make them for use in electronically controlled automatic transmissions (Non DSG) like the 4L60, 4L80, 4R100, 5R110 and others. Since the transmissions need a single to change, these would be the manual mode. Right hand is generally up-shift, left is down. Some like Jaguar have them mounted on the wheel itself and when you turn the wheel more than 90* one way, it changes which one is the up or down shift. It keep the up on the right and down on the left, no matter your hand position at that point. VW/Audi have theirs mounted to the steering column and those don't rotate with the wheel.

Full tank and random junk strewn about: 6200lbs. I also have a front axle, transfer case, and cast iron trans compared to your pile...er, truck. I kid.

5R because I have a line on one (adapter, trans, flexplate) in trade for some parts and I have a controller that is way more customizeable than the PCS and I can tune lock-up, shifts, trans brake, and later, nitrous and water.

I didn't know the Getrag, 205, and D60 were such heavy pigs. I guess cast iron cases and differentials add up.

Ive been thinking of doing a similar build to my truck. Shave as much weight, yet not hack on it too much. Billet shafts, and a 14mm pump. I'd keep non lockup, just to say I did. But,, $$$$$ has not really came my way yet!!! Hahaha. I'll be watching this build, you have my attention.
