Got everything painted up and ready to assemble. The rear axle is getting new brake shoes, hardware, parking brake cables, cylinders, drums, seals, new Spicer pinion yoke. Welded 1/4"-20 bolts onto the axle tubes so I can reattach the brake lines with cushion clamps. Got new 5.5" lift blocks, shocks and U-bolts, and rebuilding a set of 4000lb springs (originals to the truck), and I am going to reinstall the Kelderman single bag air ride. Media blasted and painted the U-bolt plates, brake shoe backing plates, forward spring hangers, shackles and rear hangers (hopefully I won't need them). Planning on getting the axle assembled tonight and freshening up the rear springs so I can reassemble everything this weekend...

Shoot, as warm as this coming weekend is to going to be, that's not a half bad idea...

I got one spring pack fully done and installed. The rear axle is 95% put together, I have to make a block off plate for the ABS tone ring sensor hole and clean up and install the rear cover and fill it with oil and it should be good to go. I am about half way done cleaning up the other spring pack, just got to finish removing some of the loose rust and get some paint on it and it'll be ready too.

Did hit a road bump, the rear fuel tank strap is plain shot. If I can't make a new one at work today, it's going to get ratchet strapped in place.

Looks like I'll be taking Thursday off too so I can finish all this mess...

Well, haven't updated this in a bit, here goes...

Made a new fuel tank rear strap, fits very well. I did have to steal the other cross member bracket off the right side of the frame and install it on the left side as the original one was rusted away. In true first gen style, that area between the tank and the frame is getting thin, only in the area of the forward left rear spring hanger/fuel tank frame bracket.

Both sets of springs were cleaned up and installed, with new lift blocks, shocks, etc.

Made the trip to MMillers without any major issues, when I was there I finished installing the exhaust and tightened up the U-bolts again.

About a week ago, I was driving along and I heard a new rattle that was a little unnerving, discovered that the left front caliper key and spring wanted to not play anymore and the caliper had pivoted away from the rotor and was rubbing on the inner surface of the wheel. Got everything put together temporarily, but I did measure to see what size of oversize key I need....well, none. There is 0.280" between the key and the caliper, so I am replacing the calipers and caliper supports. I found some NOS caliper supports and Bendix reman calipers.

Always something

Last year at MM's I beat Bill out of a set of decent supports. I felt good about it. 8)
He was probably going to scrap them, that's why I got such a good deal.

First real fill up since I got the fuel tank sealed up and finally got a MPG reading....19.9 mpg. Mostly interstate running at 75-80 mph, and not easy on the skinny pedal either. Maybe I'll try and paw paw it around and push it into the 20's...
