All I can say is that a 4200 spring makes the throttle very sensitive.

I don't know how long a head gasket will last with 43psi pushing on it....I can feel that a bit of timing is there too, when I put the new pump on, its about 3/16" from the head...fair amount of rattle to it, but runs pretty darn hard after 2000rpm's.

FINALLY figured out why the truck is dog tracking to the right, the rear axle is shifted and is not perpendicular to the frame. I was under the truck today trying to find the BOM on the rear axle and I was thinking what could be the reason why its dog tracking. Looked at the lift blocks and I could clearly see why, there was more protruding over the spring perch on the axle tube on one side versus the other. Some cross measuring with a tape measure verified it. Soon enough I am going to dig into the rear axle and fuel tank leak, so I am going to pull the bed off and have some room to work. I will also be mounting the air ride again. When I have the rear suspension apart, I am going to look at the condition of the locating pins on the blocks and the springs, and the holes in the blocks and spring pads and see how much slop there is. I am not opposed to welding on some new perches and getting some new blocks or doing a shackle flip...wonder how that would work with that Kelderman...

On another note, besides the bluish haze at start-up, the thing has been performing well. Ran great all the way to SOP and back, I really need to get some decent and balanced tires on it. Heck, even the cruise is starting to work, not decent yet, but it will try and maintain speed. Got the reverse lighting circuit finished, along with the interior lights to operate on a switch. Bunch of little things I never finished up when I rebuilt the truck.

Were you able to locate some door hinges or hub caps and beauty rings?

Thanks Matt! I was going to screw him out of big bucks for the set I have when I go to nicer rims!

Weeeeeelllll, it's been a while, so a little update.

I finally got to the bottom of the whole "dog tracking" thing. Right rear leaf pack center bolt was sheared off above the bottom overload leaf. Over time, the axle shifted rearward 1/2" inch, causing the truck to track funny.

Next on the list is to get something rigged up so the exhaust stays I one place. It's loose just enough that it has rotated to the point that the piece that goes around the transfer case is against the floor...for the third time. I'm thinking of putting a piece of flex pipe between the downpipe and the transmission crossmember. If I make a mount for the flex pipe against the crossmember, then the downpipe can flex with the engine when it twists up a little.

Still need to get some sort of insulation in the cab and get some of the air leaks sealed up. It'd be nice to have some decent heat once again.

Does the whole pipe back over the axle rotate? Or just the center piece where it goes past the T-case? If the whole thing, add a hanger over the axle to hold the "hump" up so it doesn't rotate. The other thing I can think of is add a hanger by the t-case so it holds it there from rotating.
I have tack welded several exhausts in the past to keep the pipes from turning at the joints.

It started with just the tail pipe moving, but I've tightened each joint as they came loose, and now it's all rigid up to the joint after the transfer case, and I have added an extra hanger on the run from the transfer case to the axle. I've been contemplating tack welding each joint too. I would guess that with the very soft engine and transmission rubber mounts, that there is a fair bit of movement when I really bang through the gears...causing the exhaust to twist enough that over time it all gets out of alignment. One idea was to make an exhaust mount on the transfer case crossmember so that the rest of the exhaust stays in place, while using a chunk of flex pipe in front of the clamp to allow some movement :?:

Mine is solid back to my diverter valve and the pipes don't move, and I'm sure my engine torques more than yours does. ;) I was thinking just a hanger mounted to the frame or crossmember to stiffen that section. Flex will probably work, just make sure you get the stainless or you'll be replacing it every year.

I was thinking stainless too. Wish the rest of it was stainless, it's kinda getting rusty in spots.

Since some of you all are on facehole and seen my damaged VW, I had to go into a thrash fest to get my truck back into driving shape last night. Replaced both rear leaf spring center bolts and cleaned up the mating surfaces of the blocks and the spring perches. Found out I have two right side lift blocks, so that may mean something. It's actually stamped on the bottom of them, both were RT FRONT. I used the gas axe to blow off the bump stops so I could turn one around so it could possibly work for a little while so I can source some new blocks. Got everything buttoned back up and that sum bitch still dog tracks. I am not sure where things are off, I may pull the springs and hangers, see if anything is tweaked. Even then, the front end needs new bushings, even though they were replaced almost three years ago. Kinda driving me nuts, I just want the thing to drive close to straight.

Found some new carpet remnants and started working on getting the interior finished so it'll hold a little heat. Looks better than I thought it would. I put some rubber stuff underneath it to keep it off the metal in case of water getting on the floor, it'll actually have a chance to dry out and not soak the carpet.

What clamps are you using?

I use the stainless band clamps on my exhaust and haven't had a piece shift yet. I really put the torque to them though.

What makes you think it dogtracks? Steering wheel not straight? People behind you saying it looks funny?

People behind me always say my truck tracks to the left, until they sit in a passenger seat and say it tracks right. The different front/rear track widths always confuse people that don't know better. If it's the steering wheel, I'd bump a couple of splines on the wheel/steering box, whichever is easier.

If you can just feel it walking sideways, I'd recommend taking about 3-4" of those $100 bills out of your wallet so you actually sit straight in the seat. :P

If you go with Levis' idea on the hundos you can store them with me, I need something for my left pocket to counter my wallet.

Have you measured from a known spot on each side of the frame to the axles to make sure they are in there square?
